This should put a smile on everyone's face

by: ken bank

Mon Jul 05, 2010 at 06:17:05 PM EDT

You would think that Democrats, having just lost the Governor's race, would be the ones at each other's throats, but it seems things are getting real nasty between the rightwing and extremely rightwing bloggers over at the pro-Christie "Save Jersey" blog and the pro-Lonegan "Conservatives With Attitude" (ie. "Crackpots With Agita").

Now the state's Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler of Wingnut Journalism, Star-Ledger columnist Paul Mulshine, has entered the fray with a scathing attack on Christie's cheerleaders over at Save Jersey.  It seems what started it all was a blog post on Save Jersey poking fun at Lonegan's vision impairment.  It escalated into a war of words and a lot of trash talk between head bloggers Matt Rooney at Save Jersey and Michael Illions at CWA.  Illions, a former professional wrestler himself, knows how to put on a good show and with Mulshine in the mix this is really turning into a hardcore no-holds-barred street fight between the two biggest GOP bloggers in the state that would even make WWE CEO and Connecticut GOP Senate candidate Linda McMahon turn red with embarrassment.

Political tsunami hit NJ-GOP this morning

by: ken bank

Fri Feb 12, 2010 at 02:36:34 PM EST

Well, I guess this means Michael Illions is taking himself out of the running for Middlesex GOP Chair. It's an interesting development, really, because I suspect Illions will leach off a lot of the life and vibrancy, however much there is, from the GOP, as well as some of its younger members who see him as a more interesting Pied Piper to follow than NJ GOP Chair Jay Webber. - promoted by Rosi

Forget about snowmageddon, earthquakes and underwear bombers.  A political super-duper-uber-tsunami of biblical proportions hit the NJGOP suddenly this morning when it was officially announced that former professional wrestler, reactionary blogger and teabagger activist Michael "Conservatives With Attitude" (aka "Crackpots With Agita") Illions was leaving the Republican Party to become Executive Director of the fledging NJ Conservative Party.

Seriously, folks, this could have some interesting ramifications for the NJGOP down the road.  For one thing if they can recruit somebody like teabagger activist and former congressional candidate Justin Murphy, who got 25% of the vote in the 2008 primary, to run on the conservative line in the 3rd district it could make a difference in that race.

Looking farther down the road, to the 2013 campaign, I'm sure Illions will recruit a gubernatorial candidate ala Murray Sabrin or, perhaps, Steve Lonegan who can raise enough money to qualify for matching funds and debate appearances.  Unlike Chris Daggett, who arguably took votes away from both parties, a wingnut candidate will likely take more from the GOP than from Democrats.

NJGOP Chairman Jay Webber, Joe Kyrillos, Alex DeCroce and other GOP leaders are familiar enough with Illions and his history of disrupting the GOP to know what bhe is capable of doing.  They also remember what the NJ Libertarian Party almost did to Whitman's re-election in 1997 when Sabrin took enough votes away from Whitman to make the race alot closer than it should have been.

Whatever we might think personally about Illions and his ilk, NJ  politics just became a whole lot more interesting, and entertaining as well.  Stay tuned.

Can you help fight Hydrocephalus?

by: Jason Springer

Mon Aug 24, 2009 at 12:30:00 PM EDT

I first started talking to conservative blogger Michael Illions last year around this time when I found out about his family's fight against Hydrocephalus and their wonderful son Cole. I did a post at the time publicizing the hydro-walk 2008. It's a year later now and I've stayed in touch with the Illions family as they continue their efforts raise awareness and funding for the disease.

Earlier this year, they were successful in getting a resolution passed by the House designating September as "National Hydrocephalus Awareness Month." Here is a video that the Illions put together with Congress members Leonard Lance and Michele Bachman to help lobby members of Congress before that bill was passed, that introduces you to Cole and talks about what they are fighting for:

And here is the information about this year's walk:

PHF WALK 2009
"Funding a Cure for Hydrocephalus"

September 13th, 2009
Roosevelt Park
Rt. 1 South
Edison, NJ
11:00am-3:00pm

This year we are pleased to announce that our Honorary Chairman will be Bill Evans from ABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News!

Join us for a 2 mile WALK around the beautiful lake located at Roosevelt Park to raise money and awareness to help "fund a cure" for Hydrocephalus. All proceeds to benefit the Pediatric Hydrocephalus Foundation, Inc.

According to Michael, Senator Vitale is attending and Congressman Lance's people are trying to work out for him to be there as well. Other officials from both sides of the aisle that have assisted along the way have been invited as well. I know that often times we go after the other side of the aisle, but sometimes issues like this are more important than poliics.  You can help Cole and other families struggling with this disease by making a contribution online, raising attention or registering to attend the walk online.  Thanks for your help and you can learn more about their fight at hydrocephaluskids.org
