It's been a big week, and the fallout from New Jersey's congressional redistricting, which Democrats lost when tie-breaker John Farmer picked the GOP map, is still, well, falling out.
Rothman picks Turf War with Pascrell over Holy War with Garrett. Unhappy Democrats swiping at each other. Reports of DCCC gazillions offered to Rothman for one really, really expensive sword to fall on. Heldrich Hotel, Homebase Hotspot. Mike DuHaime runs Team Dark Side. Jun Choi out, Ed Potosnak in for 7th District race with Leonard Lance. And Runyan constituents feeling like chopped liver, waiting for the political press to turn its attention to them. This is Haiku: Congressional Redistricting Edition.
You know the rules. 5 syllables, 7, 5 again. Write your haiku on the suggestion of the poet before you; leave a suggestion for the next bloke. I'll start:
Take the 5th
Tea Party fan mail
Piled on the desk, spilling over
Scott Garrett, breathes deep
Next topic: Rothman v. Pascrell

One knows he's the wind

Fracking meeting cancelled
Grassroots rattling
Stops NJ fracking for now
Watch out for next step

It's haiku time after a thrilling week in New Jersey politics, with the end of the Christie presidential speculation and the start of Occupy New Jersey.
You know the rules: 5, 7, 5 again. Take the topic suggestion left you, then set the topic for the next one. I'll start:
Occupy New Jersey
Spread across Hudson
Jersey City, Trenton streets

Get an early jump on the weekend with haiku. So much to write about - Will he, or won't he?, Christie soaking up Reagan-glow in Cali, Carl Lewis runs outta chances, Occupy Wall Street, Ron Paul visits NJ, Mitch Daniels visits Christie, the Jersey Shore tax credit, the widening gap of rich & poor. Need topic ideas? There's always Blue Jersey's 6th birthday.
You know the rules. 5 syllables, then 7, then 5 again. Write your haiku based on the suggestion of the last poet, then you set the topic for whoever follows you. Extra credit for links.
Big Boy Pants
Breathless reporters
Is he too fat? Too fat? But
We're big pants people.
Next topic: Jersey Shore tax credit

It's once again time for a haiku on a rainy New Jersey weekend.
You know the rules: 5, 7, 5 again. Take the topic suggestion left you, then set the topic for the next one. I'll start:
Carl Lewis
Judges reversal
Defeat from jaws of winning
Hope he runs again
Next topic: I Believe the Children Are Our Future (or whatever that SuperPAC is called)

Have we eked out the last, the very last of our weekend versifying?
We've got a governor swanning around, making kissy-face with far-right bigwigs, and he doesn't think he has to tell you a thing about it. And he really wants to tell you that. Sheila Oliver? She says Christie's 'mentally deranged'. But what's her deal? Or did she even make one? Jersey taxpayers are on the hook for $420K for Jersey Shore - woo hoo! Carl Lewis is running, running. Christie's visiting schools - make sure your little drug mules look nice that day. The 9/11 10th anniversary is behind us, but not the memory.
It's haiku time.
You remember the rules. Five syllables the first line, 7 the next, then 5 again. Take the suggestion of the person before you, set the topic for the next one. Nothing has to rhyme. Feel free to make a point with your haiku. Feel free to give somebody hell. Extra credit for linking to a Blue Jersey post or news article somewhere else. I'll start off:
Bite me, New Jersey. Love, Chris Christie (in 2 parts)
I go where I want
I do what I wanna, so
Mind your own beeswax
Helicopters, planes
Who rides with the governor?
Redact that, right now.

It was not such a quiet week in New Jersey, our home state. Irene blew through. Paterson, Wayne, and many other places had serious flooding. And as Labor Day approached, the war over the future of unions in the Garden State raged.
A perfect week for a haiku. You know the rules: 5, 7, 5 again. Take the topic suggestion left you, then set the topic for the next one. I'll start:
Tea Party response to Irene
It's your fault, not mine
Should have bought a second home
Pay your own damn bills
Next topic: There are no jobs - Happy Labor Day!

This is the perfect week to make fun of New Jersey politics. And you know it.
Carl Lewis: in or out or in? Guadagno: Partisan of State. Christie: Putz. Verizon strikers: bringing middle class workplace concerns to a rich man's neighborhood, Christie's neighborhood. Christie (again): focus grouping? Jersey: downrated. @SenSweeney & @NossBorcross: real love? or fakester love?
It's just 17 little syllables. What could go wrong? You know the rules: 5, 7, 5 again. Take the topic suggestion left you, then set the topic for the next one. I'll start:
Suckas!
Thwock-thwock-thwock-thwock-thwock-
Got me a chopper, you guys
Suckas pay the tolls
Next topic: Christie in 2012?

Another week, another dollar. Though the eyes of the nation (especially progressives) were on the Wisconsin recalls, Governor Christie and Senate President Steve Sweeney found the heart - nay, the brotherhood - to once again exchange knowing glances. George Norcross claimed a school founded in his name would never fail because, well, it's in his name. Oh, and LD-25 Assembly candidate George Stafford dissed Sheila Oliver. Other stuff happened too - but you know, life's a blur and stuff.
Haiku Rules are: 5 syllables, then 7, and 5 again. Write your verse based on the suggestion given, then suggest the topic for the next poet. Extra credit for linking to a Blue Jersey post, or news article. GO TIME:
FEUD OVER
Reunited and
It feels so good. Steve and Chris -
B-F-Fs for life.

It's effing hot. And it's Friday. Time for some haiku with a heat index of 108. You remember the rules - 5 syllables, then 7, and 5 again. Your topic is the one the last person suggested for you, then you get to name the topic for the next writer.
Seriously, there's plenty to write about: Christie's plummeting poll numbers, Home Depot bazillionaire wants Christie to run for Prez (I'll grab that one), Rupert Murdoch gets pied and now Lautenberg's after him too, medical marijuana - finally, One New Jersey, Donald Norcross jumps from his labor post, union cash dries up for Dems, NJTV WTF?, NJ-GOP raking in da money, Christie back from vacation ...
I'll start you off:
Billionaire Home Depot tycoon wants Christie for Prez
He's a big widget
Home Depot wants to sell him
Better deal at Loew's

It's been a really craptastic week: Various forms of budget fallout, both dastardly bullshit and mini-moments of inspiration. Diane Allen's weird Senate behavior. Fesh corruption stories from Ritacco 'n Dwek. Sweeney's new certainty Christie's running for 2012 Prez. Christie's Cheney-style secret "undisclosed location". Redistricting. Remaking NJ education. Whatevs.
Remember the rules? 5 syllables, then 7, and 5 again. Write your verse based on the suggestion given, then suggest the topic for the next poet. Extra credit for linking to a Blue Jersey post, or news article. OK, I'll start:
Diane Allen, Senate Budget Veto Override Sessions, July 11-12, 2011
Flickering pixels
Captivating screen of mine
Christie in my head

Hey - For you Saturday late-nighters, what do you have to say for yourselves now that you've been Rapture-punked? Scroll down into comments for the post-Rapture stuff.
Tomorrow at 6:00 pm (7:00 pm Central) the world comes to an end. So sayeth Christian radio, and those folks are never wrong, are they? Floods. Frogs. Finicky nuclear power plants. Democrats masquerading as Republicans. Snarling governors. Donald Trump's hairline. What will it be that actually puts an end to New Jersey?
Haiku it. Rapture-theme it.
You know the rules. 5 syllables, then 7, and 5 again. Write your haiku on the topic provided, then you suggest the topic for the next poet. I'll start you off:
Rapture for Lefties
Boom Boom Boom it goes
Progressives lifted up then?

Here we are back again with a Friday haiku just in time to verse it the hell out for the weekend. 5 syllables, then 7, then 5. Take the topic suggestion of the one before you, then set the next. Soooo much to talk about. DADT. President Obama's tax cut compromise. Christie (ad nauseum). Lautenberg saving Christie's bacon (or trying to) on our Tunnel bill. Flight patterns. Atlantic City. "Town Halls". School superintendents. New Education Commish. Holidays. Dead Bears.
But me? I gotta go with Alex DeCroce DeCroce DeCroce, he thinks he's above reproach reproach ...
Alex DeCroce x2
You live pretty well
30 years sucking us dry
Your hands are not clean
You live pretty well
You didn't want us to see
But we found out now

Busy week, climbing out of the mid-term election. AMTRAK just broke off talks of reviving ARC Tunnel. We get a bill to pay back the feds $271 million for their tunnel money. We find out Christie raised $9 million for a bunch of GOP candidates who all want to be him when they grow up. James O'Keefe (and her own judgment) costs a Passaic teacher big. FAA wants to reroute more planes over northern NJ. Christie will/won't lay off 1,200 state employees. Legislature rebukes Christie on his restrictive medi-pot plans. Oh, and Blue Jersey hits 2 million visits and 5 million page views in the same week. There's plenty to haiku about.
You remember the rules: 5 syllables, then 7, then 5 again. Write yours on the subject suggested, then you get to set the topic for the next haiku. I'll start.

For a hundred reasons I could say - but I won't - and a hundred more you can file under the general heading of because, I declare a Rainy Thursday Haiku. You remember the rules: 5 syllables, then 7, and 5 again. Write your haiku on the topic the last poster suggests, then call the next topic for the writer after you. Here are some to inspire you
All topics open, but I would love to hear how you're going to win your campaign, what you're doing today, what happens if the GOP takes the House ... you get the idea. I'll start:
Hot tomato soup
Cold outside, colder inside
Where did my friends go?
Next topic: Chris Christie for President
