The Forgery Trial is Over

by: Senator Loretta Weinberg

Thu Feb 17, 2011 at 10:16:43 PM EST

It's been almost six years and finally one person, who was charged with one forged resignation came to trial in Superior Court in Bergen County.  Elaine Rabbit who was the Vice Chair of the Bergenfield Democratic Committee during the time I won the convention to become the State Senator from District 37, was charged and found not guilty before Judge Donald Venezia this afternoon. Carol Hornlein has chronicled this saga several times for the Blue Jersey audience.

There were approximately six forgeries in the Bergenfield Democratic Committee during the same convention.  But only one other person was charged with just one of these forgeries and opted for pre-trial intervention rather than stand trial.  Ms. Rabbit chose instead to face trial.

And today the verdict was in.

County Suspends Rabbitt

by: carolh

Apparently, Elaine Rabbitt is no longer an asset to the Bergen County patronage machine.  She is now a liability, apparently.

She was suspended without pay from her $60,000 job in the engineering dept (I thought she was just a makeup artist)  in a move that observers say has never happened before.

It may have something to do with her being INDICTED on forgery charges stemming from the 2005 special election at the BCDO for a state senate seat.
http://www.northjersey.com/new...

Why, just a week ago, she was touted as an ardent supporter of newly coronated Mike Kasparian, developer, and eminent domain afficionado.

In fact they listed her TWICE:

http://www.bluejersey.com/show...

She is on the State Democratic Committee as well as the Municipal Chair in Bergenfield. She had to step aside as Councilwoman in Bergenfiield. She declined to run this past November. (It would have been tough running for re-election when your opponents could use a picture of you behind bars.)

When you consider that HER ball-and-chain, live-in boyfriend Kevin Clancy, had to step down from being Municipal Chair due to everyone suspecting HIM of the forgeries, you have to shake your head and just say : "You just can't make this stuff up."

Because of the forgeries, Clancy handed the Municipal Chairmanship to the very person to be indicted for the crime 3 years later.

Unfortunately, up till last week, it appeared that alleged forger Ms. Rabbitt still had a future in the Democratic party.  Now the suspension of her patronage job puts that bright future in doubt.  She could have risen to the level of say - Senator Coniglio. (Oops, HE's in trouble now too), or let's say, Dennis Oury, who was Joe's right hand for a while. (Oops, HE was indicted too), or say, Joe himself someday.  (Oops, INDICTED).  Or how about Eileen DeBari or Ken Zisa of the Election Board.  Oops, now THEY have to defend themselves for illegally firing poll workers in Teaneck.  Or how about Mayor Michael Wildes, whose planning board just let his buddies file a COAH builder's remedy suit against the town by delaying their COAH submission for a few days.  Ah, that is more like it.  You have to be good at Pay-to-Play and screwing the taxpayers, but you have to make sure you do it LEGALLY.

Anyway, about her suspension.  It couldn't have happened to a nicer person.:)

Still Waiting for Justice

by: carolh

I am still waiting for justice and getting nowhere. In fact, things in Bergen County are getting worse.  Sanctioned, condoned, and coddled by Jon Corzine for being a good dining companion, Joe Ferriero gets away with everything short of murder here in NJ.  We, the County Commitee who are ignored and disenfranchised at EVERY turn while trying to represent our Democratic voters, have just about had it.

I don't CARE if Joe can raise money.  I don't CARE if he knows which wine to order.  I don't care if he can be charming or funny at times.  He is a blight on our party.  He is the most horrendous party boss this nation has seen since Tammany Hall.

I would invite everyone here to DEMAND that the State INVESTIGATE and PROSECUTE to the fullest extent of the law - those responsible for forging the names of the Bergenfield County Committee members in 2005.  Write letters - call.  Do whatever it takes.

Even the mainstream media is recognizing there is a disconnect here between our Justice Department and true justice.  See yesterday's column by Mike Kelly.

These people are the ones who are now advocating MERGING municipalities in NJ and consolidating power into a few hands.  We need to make sure they speak for the voters and NOT for the Pay-To-Play players who are so greedy, their lust for money knows no bounds.

http://www.northjersey.com/pol...

We don't have democracy in the most populated part of the State.  We should not  have to wait for the wheels of justice to finally work when our State Legislature is up for sale to the highest bidder.

Shame on you, Jon Corzine for not making ETHICS the cornerstone of your fight to lower taxes.  For not making prosecution of forgers who would disenfranchise Committee members a top priority.  Are you serious about government ethics reform?  A good start would be investigating your good friend - Joe Ferriero and the machinery of the Bergen County Government and shadow governments that appoint friends to cement their hold on power.

Because ethics is not a priority for this administration, I and my friends in Bergenfield are still waiting for justice, and waiting, and waiting......
