At the Bon Jovi fundraiser last week, the Chairman of the National Governor's Association, Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer gave his pitch for Jon Corzine. Have a look as he certainly gave a colorful speech:
Updated by Jason: I didn't go, but Lacey Davenport posted a diary in the side and she was none too pleased and felt deceived. Did others feel this way too?
Two days into his re-election campaign, Gov. Jon Corzine raised more than $2 million for his effort tonight at a sold-out event featuring Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi.
The three-song acoustic concert at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center drew a full-house audience of more than 2,700, according to Corzine's campaign.
Bon Jovi opened with "Who says you can't go home", then played "Livin on a Prayer", and closed with "Here comes the Sun" according to reports.
Tickets to the Jon Bon Jovi event normally cost between $50 to $3,400, but this is your chance to attend for free.
By becoming a Founding ActBlue Advocate for Corzine, you create a personal fundraising page on ActBlue and ask your friends and family to contribute to your page. In return, we will give you a free ticket to the event equal to the amount you raise. We'll walk you through the steps of setting up a personal fundraising page for Jon Corzine on ActBlue. Between now and 11:59pm on June 1, ask your friends and family to contribute through your page. The first 75 supporters to raise just $50 get a free ticket! If you raise more, you'll get a better seat closer to the stage. Within minutes you will be able to create a Corzine page and ActBlue has the necessary tools to support you as you support Governor Corzine.
Ticket prices for the event range between $50 to $3,400, so for example, if you raise $50 on your page, you will get a free $50 ticket and if you raise $300, you will receive a $300 ticket. Click here for the full breakdown.
So just because you may not be able to afford that front row seat, doesn't mean you can't get it. Hats off to the campaign for giving people another way to attend the show even if they don't have the money themselves.
Via Taegan Goddard, The Rocky Mountain News is confirming what TS blogged this morning. Both Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen will be representing the Garden State this week in Denver. Jon will be warming up the crowd at Invesco Field for Obama, while Bruce will close out the night with what's expected to a solo acoustic performance.
Multiple sources confirmed to the Rocky that Jon Bon Jovi will fly in to perform two acoustic songs before Sen. Barack Obama gives his acceptance speech at Invesco Field on Thursday. After the speech, Bruce Springsteen (photo at right) will close out the night, presumably solo acoustic (E Street Band member Nils Lofgren told the Rocky last week that the band wouldn't be with Springsteen in Denver).
Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek and others in the article breathlessly tell reporter Jeffrey Mays of the Ledger that that jean-jacketed legend of the 80s, Jon Bon Jovi, will indeed grace Newark with his impeccable hair and repertoire of mainstream rock when the center opens on October.
“It’s going to be rockin’, baby,” Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek said. “It’s unbelievable. (Jon Bon Jovi) is a Jersey guy. He’s at the height of his career on a brand new tour. From day one, we said we wanted to bring the top acts and certainly Bon Jovi is synonymous with the best in New Jersey.”
Bon Jovi will doubtless fill the 18,000 seats at the Prudential Arena, which is huge for Newark: even if a fraction of concert-goers stick around to check out downtown or eat in the Ironbound restaurants, we should see some serious revenue for local businesses. That is, of course, assuming that police director McCarthy can make some substantial headway against the crime problem.
Have you heard about the LiveEarth concert coming to Giants Stadium this summer?
In the spirit of Live Aid or Farm Aid, Live Earth will be a 24hr. world-wide event that uses great music and star power to raise attention and money for a good cause. In this case, Mother Earth is the focus and the lineup is a stellar one: Melissa Ethridge, Dave Matthews Band, Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters among others. Did I mention that Ludacris would be there too?
Rumor has it Pink Floyd may reunite for this show. Al Gore will be there. He's the spiritual godfather of the modern movement and a partner in this event. The concert is July 7th, with venues from all seven continents and the choice in North America is our own East Rutherford. How cool is that?
