Murray Sabrin: Time Traveler!

by: vmars

Tue Sep 08, 2009 at 09:41:01 AM EDT

heh ...heh ... heh ... promoted from the diaries by Rosi

I am so excited!  Apparently there has been a huge advance in technology lately that allows people -- or at least radical right wing Republicans -- to travel in time and rearrange the events of the past!

Murray Sabrin, in another PolitickerNJ posting untouched by editorial pen, has the evidence:

After the raucous town hall meetings members of Congress faced during their recent vacation, the Democrats realize that the country will not now embrace a single payer insurance system; therefore they will go for the incremental approach. A public option now and then later the big enchilada, universal health care.

Get that?  Apparently before the August recess the health care proposals in front of Congress were all single payer insurance programs that would have put the United States government in total charge of health care!  And after the brave gun-toting screamers armed with fictional outrages attacked Democratic legislators they changed the bill to only include a public option!

This is amazing!  Because in the time-stream I live in, single payer has never been before Congress in an any bill supported by more than a handful of members.  It has not been seriously discussed in committee, and has never been given a vote at any level.

But in Sabrin-land -- color of sky yet to be determined -- the Democrats in Congress were dedicated to forcing a Medicare-style program down the American gullet against the will of the People.  It was only through the brave efforts of the tea bag dippers that protected America from this outrage and delivered us back to some semblance of sanity.

Obviously Sabrin is either factually challenged (i.e. deluded or lying) or he has developed that time-travel machine mentioned above.  Since PolitickerNJ is so dedicated to ensuring its columnists provide factual support for their claims, obviously the former is untrue and the latter scientific breakthrough is upon us.

Hal Turner's deadly stash

by: Rosi Efthim

Fri Jun 26, 2009 at 01:11:29 PM EDT

Hal Turner, arrested this week for threatening to kill three federal judges because he didn't like rulings upholding gun bans, turns out to have enough firepower at his house to carry out that threat and a whole frickin' spree if the moon's full for North Bergen's local frothing looneytunes.

Two hundred rounds of ammunition. And 150 illegal hollow-point bullets, were found at chez Turner in a post-arrest FBI raid.

Lat year, I remember Jay Lassiter asking, and Ken Bank answering - who this guy was, because he never heard of him. Struck me, because neither had I. Ah, but I had.

I listen to right-wing radio in the car. Sue me. I like knowing what they think. Mostly it boils down to extreme distaste for the rest of us. Hal Turner is Hal from North Bergen, the now-banned regular put-him-through-immediately caller to the Sean Hannity Show. I had to read Steve Hart to get that. An before then, Turner buddied up to the shouty Bob Grant; same time slot. I heard Turner spew a hundred times.

I'm not a native New Jerseyan. Sometimes I forget who people are. Hal Turner:  White supremacist. Habitual assasination-threatener. Anti-semite. Possible FBI informant. Veteran-threatener.

No, we're not linking you to his blog posts, or his short-wave radio site. Screw that.

Wingnuts v. wingnuts v. RINOs: NJGOP wars heating up

by: ken bank

Mon May 04, 2009 at 04:46:01 PM EDT

Wingnuts are forming their own circular firing squad within the NJGOP as libertarian wingnuts are squaring off against paleocon wingnuts over Steve Lonegan's Bourbonesque plan to increase taxes on the poor and cut taxes on the rich.  In a column posted on PolitickerNJ.com libertarian wingnut and professional loser Murray Sabrin threw down the gauntlet when he denounced Lonegan's tax plan for raising taxes on low income earners.  Sabrin and Lonegan, who shared the same campaign manager Rick Shaftan, were once political allies but split last year after Lonegan refused to support Sabrin in the NJGOP primary for US Senate and instead endorsed Sabrin's rival State Senator "Jersey Joe" Pennacchio.  Ironically "Jersey Joe" betrayed Lonegan this year by endorsing Chris Christie.

On a similar note tomorrow night may well be the grand climax (no pun intended) of the Lonegan campaign when "Joe the Deadbeat Plumber" comes to New Jersey to sell his book and campaign for Steve, and hopefully raise enough money to buy him a hairpiece that fits before the televised debates with Chris Christie.  Joe's appearance is no freebie, however, as PolitickerNJ.com reports he will be amply compensated by the Lonegan campaign.  Our tax dollars at work.

He really, really screwed us

by: Jason Springer

Thu Jan 22, 2009 at 12:15:00 PM EST

I agree with Murray Sabrin.  Yup, you read that right.  And it doesn't happen often. Here's his conclusion:
George W. Bush's presidential epithet can now be written:  He really, really screwed us.
Now personally, I could have called that one years ago.  We will be referring to the legacy of George Bush, and most often not fondly, for many years to come. And these are just the problems we already know about.   What else is just waiting to be discovered?

Sabrin: Chris Christie "turning a blind eye" to corruption

by: Juan Melli

Sun May 25, 2008 at 03:16:46 PM EDT

Republican Senate candidate Murray Sabrin has some harsh words for US Attorney Chris Christie:
"Chris Christie is turning a blind eye to the rampant corruption throughout New Jersey by Republican public officials and political bosses. There is no way Chris Christie can be elected Governor of New Jersey if he continues with this partisan prosecution. New Jersey voters are not looking for a Republican Prosecutor who only investigates Democrats and allows his Republican buddies to get away with 'stealing elections' as their next Governor. Chris Christie had no problem inserting himself into the United States Senate campaign in 2006 by going after the Democratic nominee. We cannot allow the United States Attorney's office to be politicized, whether by Democrats or Republicans. Unfortunately, Chris Christie's actions, or lack thereof, feeds into the electorate's skepticism of politics. It is a shame to tarnish the history of such a remarkable office."
Sabrin even says he will challenge Christie in a gubernatorial run:
"I will not stand by idly while the U.S. Attorney lets the Republican Primary for the United States Senate be stolen from me. If Chris Christie does not act immediately and this race is stolen from our supporters, I will do everything I can to prevent Chris Christie from being elected Governor of New Jersey next year. If that means I must run myself and remind the voters of the partisan form of justice he performed, then so be it. How can a few reporters without the staff and budget of the U.S. Attorney's office outline the Republican corruption in their book 'Soprano State', yet Chris Christie doesn't seem willing to put these party bosses under oath?"
Sabrin's press release includes a "partial list" with examples of alleged corruption he believes Christie has ignored:
1. The serious allegations of intimidation, corruption, lawlessness, campaign finance violations and other irregularities surrounding Dick Zimmer's campaign for the United States Senate
2. The rampant corruption by Ocean County Republican Boss George Gilmore and the rest of his cronies as has been widely reported in the media (for more info please visit www.trooc.com)
3. Somerset County Republican Boss Dale Florio and the Republican Freeholder Board's involvement with the Somerset County Park Commission scandal (you can visit www.parkscandal.com for more information)
4. New Jersey Republican State Chairman Tom Wilson's involvement with his lobbying partner Robert Stears who plead guilty to stealing over $1 million from the Burlington County Bridge Commission with no one else being charged with any wrongdoing (Chris Christie's office never even interviewed Tom Wilson)

"Maverick Murray's" Preakness picks

by: ken bank

Fri May 16, 2008 at 05:52:03 PM EDT

Check out the latest nonsense from  "New Jersey conservative Republican leader Dr. "Maverick Murray" Sabrin, the Garden State's strongest advocate of limited government and individual freedom and the front-runner for United States Senate":

Dr. Sabrin announced his prediction that Big Brown will probably win the 133rd running of the Preakness on Saturday since Cowboy Cal won't be participating.  He also announced that every dollar that is donated between 3:00-4:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, May 16th, will be wagered on the Preakness.  However, to hedge against an upset (and to get better odds than 1-2), he will take the funds and box an exacta with Big Brown, Icabad Crane and Gayego.  He will make the wager on behalf of the campaign on Saturday when he visits Monmouth Park Racetrack.

Maverick Murray predicted, "Since Behindatthebar has been scratched, Big Brown is an even greater favorite to win.  However, even front-runners like myself don't win until we cross the finish line.  If we can raise $25,000 for this wager we can fund a week's worth of T.V. commercials for my campaign to Legalize Freedom!"  Sabrin continued, "If you want something more risky try boxing the Trifecta with Big Brown, Icabad Crane and Gayego.  If you win, I hope you will consider a very generous donation to my campaign; if you lose, remember I told you it was risky."

At least we know one horse's ass that will lose in the New Jersey primary on June 3.

Sabrin scolds Lieberman

by: Juan Melli

Tue May 13, 2008 at 12:56:55 PM EDT

Over the weekend Joe Lieberman (Swiftboater-CT), who is campaigning for John McCain, went on CNN and tried to tie Barack Obama to Hamas:
"But the fact that the spokesperson for Hamas would say they would welcome the election of Senator Obama really does raise the question, "Why?"

And it suggests the difference between these two candidates.

Republican Senate candidate Murray Sabrin scolded Lieberman for the remarks:
"With over 150,000 brave Americans in Iraq and millions of their family members back home watching our Presidential campaign evolve, I expect more civility and honesty from Senator Joe Lieberman and so should Senator John McCain. Senator McCain should denounce these comments or Senator Lieberman should apologize directly to Senator Barack Obama."
But why would McCain denounce those words? Lieberman is just repeating the same comments McCain has made. Sabrin, whose parents survived the Holocaust, continued:
I have a fundamental difference of opinion about our foreign policy with Senators McCain and Lieberman, but that doesn't mean we cannot discuss those differences without disingenuous attacks. You can disagree with Joe Lieberman on foreign policy and still be a friend of the Jews! Perhaps Senators McCain and Lieberman are needing their vitamin boost of Straight Talk!"

GOP Senate Primary - Disclosure Doesn't Pay

by: Thurman Hart

Sun May 11, 2008 at 08:15:45 PM EDT

The Bergen Record has an op-ed today scripted by George Ajjan - who is described as:
George Ajjan is a Republican activist, writer and pundit who was the GOP nominee for Congress in the 8th District in 2004.

There's only one thing wrong with that description (that I'll focus on here) - it's incomplete to the point of being misleading and dishonest.  George Ajjan is working for Murray Sabrin, as is evidenced by his name on Sabrin's press releases.

I give the Record credit for being evenhanded - they have an op-ed for each of the candidates for the GOP.  It's almost as if they looked for the worst possible people to do it, though.  For example - Mike Ferguson writing for Dick Zimmer.

Sabrin: No Citizenship by Ceremony for Babies

by: Thurman Hart

Mon May 05, 2008 at 12:42:21 PM EDT

Murray Sabrin has a bug up his butt - and it's about all those people who perform citizenship ceremonies on babies before the kid is old enough to give consent.

From Sabrin's press release, Sabrin's five-point plan to end the immigration crisis includes:

3. End birth-rite citizenship

A rite is defined as:

a formal or ceremonial act or procedure prescribed or customary in religious or other solemn use

I must agree.  Babies should not be subjected to a citizenship rite.  As has been the case for over two hundred years, they should be granted citizenship because they were born in this country.  That is their - and our - birthRIGHT.

How funny is it to put out a press release castigating immigrants for not using English that refers to your candidate as foreign-born and misuses the language?  The only thing that would make it funnier would be if it were released on some kind of holiday in Mexico or something...

Really, folks, we couldn't make this up.

Deep Thoughts: Kentucky Derby Omen Edition

by: Jason Springer

Sun May 04, 2008 at 12:56:04 PM EDT

(Ponder this - omen or simply the dumbest of luck? - promoted by Thurman Hart)

Yet another omen for Hillary Clinton Sabrin - and America - - Promoted by Thurman Hart

Which is a worse omen...

Murray Sabrin wagered his fundraising dollars on a 20-1 shot, Cowboy Cal,which was in contention early in the race, but faded toward the end finishing in 9th.

Hillary Clinton voiced her support for the filly, Eight Belles...

I hope that everybody will go to the derby on Saturday and place just a little money on the filly for me," Sen. Clinton told supporters in Jeffersonville, Ind., ABC News reports. "I won't be able to be there this year - my daughter is going to be there and so she has strict instructions to bet on Eight Belles.
Eight Belles ran a great race, ultimately finishing in 2nd behind the juggernaut of the field, Big Brown. As if that wasn't bad enough, unfortunately the horse broke both ankles and had to be euthanized on the track following the race.

I'm just askin...

Murray bets campaign funds on a horse

by: ken bank

Fri May 02, 2008 at 09:58:34 PM EDT

"Maverick Murray" Sabrin announced his prediction that Cowboy Cal would win the 134th Running of The Kentucky Derby on Saturday. He also announced that every dollar that is donated to his campaign online between 2:00-3:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, May 2nd, will be wagered on Cowboy Cal to Win the Kentucky Derby. He will make the wager on Saturday when he visits Monmouth Park Racetrack and the winnings will help fund his campaign.

I'd bet 20-to-1 that a horse's ass who refers to himself as "Maverick Murray" becomes a three-time loser on June 3.

Murray wants our tax rebate checks

by: ken bank

Fri May 02, 2008 at 09:23:12 PM EDT

"Maverick Murray" Sabrin issued a press release asking taxpayers to send him their rebate checks so he can "stimulate" the economy by spending their money on his campaign ads for the June 3 primary election.

Murray doesn't explain, however, how his campaign reports raising $350,000 as of March 31 and has only $66,000 on hand without spending one penny on advertising.  Evidently Murray's plan to stimulate the economy is to hand out tens of thousands of dollars to consultants, managers, spokesmen and other political drones whose meal ticket he has become.

High Stakes Politics

by: huntsu

Fri May 02, 2008 at 03:03:17 PM EDT

OK, I know that he's not gonna win, but is this the kind of image a libertarian fiscal conservative like Murray Sabrin wants to project:

Sabrin, who is running in the Republican primary for the seat held by incumbent Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg, is using the proceeds from an hour-long online fund-raiser this afternoon to bet it all on Cowboy Cal in tomorrow's Kentucky Derby.

Yes, that's right -- he's using federal campaign funds to bet on the horses. "At 20-1, if we can raise just $25,000 online during this money bomb and Cowboy Cal wins the Kentucky Derby, we will have enough money to win the primary," Sabrin reasoned in a campaign statement.

Ron Paul's money bomb for Murray

by: ken bank

Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 02:52:29 PM EDT

. . . is apparently a bust.  Less than a hundred supporters showed up and according to the totals posted on Murray's website they raised less than $30,000.  After staff and overhead expenses, they might have just enough left over to advertise on "Uncle Floyd".

Murray wants Christie to get Zimmer

by: ken bank

Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 07:47:07 PM EDT

The wild and wacky NJ-GOP senate race got even wilder and wackier when Murray Sabrin, who now calls himself "Maverick Murray", issued a press release demanding that US Attorney Chris Christie immediately investigate his opponent, former congressman Richard Zimmer, for alleged corruption related to the filing of candidacy papers to replace Andy "The Bean" Unanue (who is still vacationing in Colorado) on the ballot.

According to "Maverick Murray",

There have been serious allegations of corruption, intimidation and lawlessness surrounding the campaign of Dick Zimmer and Andy Unanue.  The Republican voters need to be sure the process of selecting candidates to run for office has not been tainted and I call upon United States Attorney Chris Christie to investigate the charges leveled by State Senator Joe Pennacchio's campaign against Dick Zimmer and his campaign.

Apparently "Maverick Murray" thinks the US Attorney should have nothing better to do than investigate paper shuffling at the Division of Elections.  If he accomplishes nothing else this election cycle, at least "Maverick Murray" provides the best definition for being a "Putz"!

"Shore Wars" in Ocean County

by: ken bank

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 09:57:28 PM EDT

A group calling themselves the Traditional Republican Organization of Ocean County (TROOC) has started a rebellion against the Regular Republican Organization, a.k.a. the Evil Empire, led by its imperial boss George "Darth" Gilmore.  The rebels have allied themselves with U.S. Senate candidate Murray Sabrin who unsuccessfully sought the endorsement of the Regular Republicans and vowed to support a slate of candidates to challenge the chosen candidates of the Evil Empire.

Last Friday a group of rebels gathered at the courthouse in Toms River to hear from their spiritual leader "Master Murray" as well as candidates for Congress, Freeholder, and other county offices.  In a scene eerily reminiscent of the beginning in the 1948 political thriller "All The Kings Men", imperial storm troopers in the guise of county sheriffs approached the rebels and demanded that they disperse.  Wishing to avoid a confrontation, "Master Murray" withdrew his faithful followers to a safer locale nearby where they would not be threatened.

One of the rebel leaders proclaimed, "Ocean County is suffering with its pay-to-play lawyers and tax-spending increases. We need to bring back the Republican values of Reagan, Eisenhower and Lincoln."  Great idea; Ronald Reagan raised payroll taxes and record deficits, Eisenhower couldn't decide until the last minute whether he should run for President as a Republican or Democrat, and Lincoln suspended habeas corpus while instituting compulsory military service.

With leadership like two-time loser "Master Murray" this rebellion should have as much success as a bucket brigade on the Titanic.  "Darth" Gilmore will have his way as usual come election day, and the remnants become the political equivalent of Bantha fodder.

GOP Senate Primary Cheatsheet

by: Jason Springer

Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 09:42:17 PM EDT

While people may not remember the road traveled come September, the traveling circus known as the GOP U.S. Senate Primary campaign has seen many twists and turns.

In less than one year, the NJ GOP has gone through or proposed 15 candidates, experienced many false starts, had calls for resignation of the State chair and for candidates to drop out all while giving us tons of fun to watch.   Here's a recap, in case you haven't been following along...

  • 4/26/07- Assemblyman Mike Doherty became the first candidate to join the show.

  • 5/2/07- A blog aimed at encouraging former baseball player Al Leiter to seek the nomination was started.

  • 7/11/07- Anne Estabrook dipped her toes in the water forming an exploratory committee.

  • 8/9/07- Assemblyman"Jersey Joe" Pennacchio said he was mulling a Senate bid.

  • 8/10/07- Assemblyman Doherty ended his short lived Senate bid leaving only Estabrook and Penachio as candidates expressing interest.

  • 9/10/07- Pennacchio tapped Morris GOP chair to oversee his then exploratory bid.

  • 10/22/07- Anne Estabrook let people know she would run for the Senate seat.

  • 11/13/07- Al Leiter crushed the hopes of conservative bloggers by saying he had his eye on a Senate seat just not Lautenberg's in '08.

This is only the beginning of the ridiculousness.  There is MUCH more below the fold...

Quotes of the Day: GOP Welcoming Committee edition

    by: Jason Springer

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 11:06:56 PM EDT

I know tensions are a little high these days, so lets take a moment and enjoy the circular firing squad that is the NJ GOP Senate primary.

Today's quotes stem from the entrance of Former Congressman Dick Zimmer into the GOP primary campaign which lead to the ending of the worst campaign in state history, Unanue for Senate, and a welcoming of sorts from his remaining rivals.  First Murray Sabrin takes a shot at Unanue before turning his attention to Zimmer...

"Andy Unanue's ridiculous candidacy had been going downhill ever since he launched it from the ski slopes of Vail, and now that it has officially flopped, Tom Wilson and the failed GOP party bosses have finally reached the letter Z in their rolodex with Dick Zimmer."
And then Joe Pennachio gives us the headline of the day with "Pennacchio on the anticipated announcement of the "Candidate du Jour," followed by this beauty of a release...
    Whatever...
So the next time you are frustrated by the primary, remember it could be sooooo much worse.

Did Jackie Mason write this script?

    by: ken bank

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 12:10:00 AM EDT

In the New Jersey GOP Senate primary race we start with Mean Murray Sabrin, Jersey Joke Pinnocchio and Annie "the Nebish" Estabrook.  First, Murray attacks Annie, Annie gets all famished and flubs her lines, then Annie has a stroke and everyone else in the GOP gets agita.  To cure the agita the GOP big shots turn to Andy "The Bean Baron" Unanue who, they later find out, is really a nightclub owner from New York who lives with his parents in New Jersey so he doesn't have to pay taxes, and then is fired from the bean factory by his own cousins who claim he was drunk on the job.

That's not all.  In desperation the big shots turn to The Miracle Worker, John Crowley, who single-handedly saved his own kids from an incurable disease.  They hope he can perform another trick and miraculously save the NJ GOP from another statewide embarrassment.  The Miracle Worker says he'll think about it, then after thinking about it says he won't do it.  Then The Miracle Worker gets a call from the War Hero (John McCain) begging him to reconsider, which he does.  Then The Bean Baron says he'll get out if The Miracle Worker gets in.  The Miracle Worker says he'll probably get in, but then at the last minute changes his mind again and says this time he's definitely not getting in.  Then The Bean Baron says he's definitely staying in even though he's on vacation and doesn't know when he'll be back.  Now there's a rumor that another GOP Big Brand Name (Tom Kean Jr.) is thinking about getting into the race if the Bean Baron decides to get out, which the Bean Baron has said he won't do but might do because he said before he won't do it but then said he might do it.

In the meantime, back at the Democratic Ranch, everyone waits for the gunfight at the New Jersey corral between Frank "the Alte Kocker" Lautenberg and Rob "Joe Lieberman Wannabee" Andrews.  It looks like the GOP will give us The Keystone Cops while the Democrats give us their version of the main event from Rocky VI.
