Bob Menendez and his fellow Democrats were right to block the Dubai Ports Deal, as we see today that sensitive exports to a company in the United Arab Emirates are improperly being sent on to other countries, sometimes (it is said) ending up in IEDs in Iraq. The UAE is not living up to its agreements. Let me clear: It's not a reason to bomb the UAE, Iran or Syria, but it is a reason not to sell them our ports.

FERGUSON VOTES TO KILL CONGRESSIONAL ACTION ON DUBAI PORT DEAL – AGAIN!
Why doesn’t he want Congressional oversight of this deal?
SCOTCH PLAINS – Proving yet again that he is a rubber-stamp for the failed policies of the Bush Administration, Congressman Mike Ferguson yesterday cast his vote AGAINST an effort to force debate and vote on a proposed takeover of port operations by a company based in the United Arab Emirates. This is the second time in a week that Ferguson has voted against proposed congressional oversight of this deal.
“The Bush Administration seems to be calling on public officials to accept their failed policies without question, and Mike Ferguson seems happy to comply,†said Linda Stender, Democratic candidate for Congress in the 7th Congressional District. “Giving access to our ports to a country with terrorist ties would be a horrible mistake, and Mike Ferguson refuses to do what’s needed to stop it. He calls for congressional hearings on one hand, then votes against congressional action on the other. As we’ve seen so often in his Congressional career, he portrays himself as sharing the priorities of his constituents, then puts common sense aside to provide a loyal rubber stamp vote for the President’s initiatives.â€

The takeover of terminal operations at some American ports by a Dubai-owned shipping company has generated nearly twenty new bills in Congress. Some are more far-reaching than others, most notably the legistation proposed by my own voice in the House, Rep. Jim Saxton (NJ-3) whose bill is widely regarded as most heavy-handed and would prohibit foreign ownership of any so-called "critical infastructure" in this country. Says Rep. Saxton,
Americans are less likely to attack the Homeland than perhaps some others are. We know that there's an ideological divide between some people who live in the eastern, uhhhh, hemisphere and some people who, the rest of us who live in the western, uhhhh, hemisphere.

Assemblywoman Linda Stender (also a contender to help Dump Mike) has fast tracked her bill A-2702 through the statehouse. The bill portends to stop the Dubai port grab and seems to have a promise of passing the legislature rather quickly and being signed by Gov. Corzine expeditiously.
This bill is moving so fast, that Linda Stender is talking to the Homeland Security Committee RIGHT NOW.
Go listen
UPDATE: Stender press release and Bill details on the flip.

Knock Knock.
Who's There?
I duh
I duh who?
I duhno.
That's right folks, the famous, I dunno defense is now being toted by the White House. The problem is, people who work for the White House, actually DID know.
The next thing you know, the White House will no longer be commenting on an ongoing "investigation." At least that is what the Karl Rove playbook says.
Also of interest, according to Think Progress, another law was broken, and our future Port operations managers in Dubai actually met with Osama Bin Laden.
Again use this as an open thread to voice your concerns about this National Security issue that our Senator Bob Menendez brought to the forefront of our national conversation.

Quick idea.
How about we let the United Arab Emirates folks pay for the dredgeing of the Delaware River!
For those of you listening to the aweful media coverage on this, remember how simple this is.
The President, acting without Congress, approved the sale of our ports to a nation that is a terrorist sponsor, and has a huge economic relationship with Iran (axis of evil).
Use this as an open thread to discuss the President making a major business deal with a terrorist sponsoring nation!
