New Jersey has a sizeable single-payer constituency, and this is for them. Blue Jersey's approach is different, but we thank you very much for stopping in here to advocate, Congressman - - - promoted by Rosi Efthim
Dear Blue Jersey - we've gotten to know each over the years - I've been a guest on Blue Jersey Radio and I got to meet many of you at the 2007 Garden State Equality Gala. Most importantly, I've been relying on BlueJersey to update me on Garden State activities.
I'm in the process of reaching out to blogs in every state. I'm writing today to ask you to urge your congressional delegation to support a single-payer healthcare option. We have the support of over 85 members of Congress, millions of Americans and countless physicians and nurses.
Below the thread is a message that I am pushing in all 50 states - a message that we sent out to our database of over 150,000 members - I hope you will consider calling your member of Congress today.
Sincerely yours,
Dennis

I'm writing this post because I have received a lot of heat in the last 3 days, most of them from Edwards' supporters and a lot of Kucinich supporters from NJ. Easily over a dozen harsh emails in the last 48 hours....As Congressman Kucinich's national campaign coordinator and manager for the past year, I have constantly heard from a lot of my friends in New Jersey, good people and good friends, that Dennis is taking away votes from Edwards and Obama, that he is a spoiler - I have heard from numerous Edwards supporters, a lot of them my friends from the New Jersey DFA & PDA, that they could never forgive Dennis for backing Edwards in 2004 over Howard Dean, arguing that is what pushed Dean into 3rd place in Iowa and Dean in 2nd place.

Update: Below the fold I've included the names I was provided of those who have endorsed Obama. As some have pointed out in the comments, this doesn't mean that all or most Kucinich organizers endorsed Obama. For example, they could be endorsing John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, or vote for Kucinich anyway. Some Kucinich organizers in the comments argue that these people are not even "real" Kucinich supporters. I wasn't involved in the campaign so I'll let the folks in the comments speak for themselves.
Congressman Dennis Kucinich's former national campaign manager and New Jersey native Vin Gopal today announced that he is endorsing Barack Obama noting that "both Kucinich and Obama opposed the war in Iraq from the start....New Jersey progressives need to unite behind a candidate who is right on the issues when it counts."
"We appreciate the support from key members of Congressman Kucinich's campaign organization," said Obama's New Jersey State Director Mark Alexander. "Congressman Kucinich has been an outspoken advocate for the things he believes in and cares deeply about, such as opposing the war in Iraq. Every day, we are broadening our coalition of support, and we welcome these supporters to our team."
Obama also picked up the support of Kucinich for President New Jersey State Co-Coordinator April Kuzas, Kucinich for President Hudson County Coordinator and New Jersey Iraqi Veterans for Peace President Michael Embrich, and over 2 dozen local, county and regional Kucinich for President organizers, activists and coordinators. "As a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, I know the importance of candidates being right the first time. Senator Obama was the only other candidate besides Congressman Kucinich who spoke out in opposition to lead up of the war in Iraq," said Embrich.

Tsunami Tuesday is only three months away. We're less than two months away from the Iowa caucuses. And of course, tomorrow is our state election day.
But first it's another Blue Jersey Presidential Strawpoll. Cast your vote and voice your opinions below the fold.
Also: Will some of these candidates fail to make it on NJ ballots? Discuss.

We've done several monthly Blue Jersey 2008 presidential strawpolls so far.
But since Blue Jersey wasn't around during the primaries in 2003/2004, let's find out who we supported back then. Unlike the strawpolls, this isn't asking who you voted for, as the nomination was clinched by the time of Jersey's June 2004 primary. Tell us who you primarily supported before the nominee had been decided.

Sometimes Politics makes strange bedfellows and today's vote on a resolution sponsored by Congressman Rothman is no different. The resolution condemned Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and accused him of attempting to inspire genocide. The bill passed by a vote of 411-2. The 2 no votes were from Texas Republican Presidential Candidate/Congressman Ron Paul and Ohio Democratic Presidential Candidate/Congressman Dennis Kucinich. I can't imagine its very often you see the 2 of them agreeing on many issues

Once again, it's the fifth of the month and time for our 2008 Presidential Strawpoll!
This one is a bit different because I took out the "Don't know" option. By now, there have been several debates and detailed policy positions released, so most of us have a fairly good idea of who the candidates are and what they stand for. Over the next few months, your support can and probably will change. But let's get a snapshot at where you are today, okay? So have at it below and please leave your thoughts in the comments.

The New York Times has updated its Presidential big donor maps based on the FEC disclosure reports. As I did earlier for the New Jersey Republican big donors, I've made a table with the breakdown into North Jersey (zip codes 07000-07999) and Central/South Jersey (08000-08999). Again, I caution you that only people who gave $250 or more are included. [Update: I forgot to say that numbers are in thousands of dollars.]
Obama and Edwards are pretty comparable in New Jersey. Clinton beats both of them put together. There's no doubt she is very formidable here in New Jersey. Richardson badly underperforms compared to his national numbers, while nearby senators Dodd and Biden do fairly well in comparison.
| Candidate | North | Central/South |
|---|
| Clinton | 571 | 238 | | Obama | 320 | 76 | | Edwards | 227 | 74 | | Dodd | 77 | 24 | | Biden | 59 | 13 | | Richardson | 35 | 17 | | Kucinich | 6 | 0 | | Gravel | 1 | 0 |

ARG just a new poll of New Jersey primary voters.
American Research Group: (Mar 29-Apr 2)
Likely Democratic primary voters [unaffiliated]
Hillary Clinton 37% [43%]
Barack Obama 23% [20%]
John Edwards 9% [9%]
Joe Biden 9% [7%]
Bill Richardson 6% [4%]
Chris Dodd 2%
Dennis Kucinich 1% [2%]
Undecided 14% [13%] I haven't found data from previous months so I can't say much about the trend, but I would have expected Clinton to be further ahead. The number in brackets is how the votes of unaffiliated "likely primary voters" breaks down.
Note - ARG has different numbers posted on their front page showing Edwards tied with Biden at 9%. ARG can't explain the discrepancy and someone is "looking into it." If this changes the above analysis, I'll post an update.
Update: ARG has updated their website with new numbers. Joe Biden and John Edwards are tied at 9%.

(I had been planning to post this yesterday, and forgot. Here it is a day late!)
We are now less than a year away from New Jersey's projected Democratic Presidential Primary. This is the first of what will become a monthly strawpoll, with the last one to take place on February 5, 2008. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order and the position will rotate every month.
UPDATE: After a day and a half, this poll is called at 68 votes (all further results are void). And John Edwards is the overwhelming victor.

Having seen him run in 2004, no doubt you all already have your opinions of Representative Dennis Kuninich. As I recall, he was actually still on the ballot in June when we voted. I would say that the audience showed little interest in his speech, with many people wandering off and some have their own conversations in the aisles, to the point that I would call it disrespectful. He noted it too, calling out: "Can you hear me in the back? [pause] Cause I can hear you!"
