Former head of the DEP and current EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson was on Real Time with Bill Maher last Friday. Here is much of the segment:They talked about states that have brought the federal government along to higher standards, but said that we should be past the states leading the way on clean energy because in a year or two, China will literally clean our clock. They talked about hybrid technology, but that how the electricity is generated is very important. Maher brings up how raising beef causes more global warming than cars, to which Jackson tried to gloss over the answer, but Maher wasn't having any of it. Then they started talking about water and people getting sick from it with everything added in the water supply. Jackson said we should be concerned that we don't know enough about clean water and water is a concern for us. Then they moved to toxic chemicals management, to which Jackson said they're trying to move the bar back to think about what will happen at the end
Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Erin Burnett from CNBC made up the panel this week on Real Time with Bill Maher. I found the show loaded on Youtube in four parts. They talked about the economy, Rush Limbaugh, the benefits of dreaming big, the problems with our prisons and more. I found Booker very impressive once again in the way he is able to relate real life stories to the policies he supports. On the elevation of Rush Limbaugh in the public debate this past week:
Newark's Roman Catholic archbishop is upset part of Bill Maher's movie was filmed at Bergen County parish.
Maher set part of his documentary "Religulous," which mocks organized religion, in Our Lady of Mercy in Park Ridge.
Maybe the church didn't know they were filming, or maybe not:
A spokesman for Archbishop John Myers says the parish priest was aware of a policy that prohibits any commercial filming in churches.
But Jim Goodness says filmmakers told the Very Rev. Charles Grandstrand that Maher wanted to film his Jewish mother there because the church was such a big part of her life. His father was Catholic.
I guess that means Rev. Grandstrand was ok with the idea of breaking the rules until he saw the final product.
Governor Corzine was a part of the panel on Real Time with Bill Maher this week. He joined NPR's Michele Martin and CBS's Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson for a discussion. The show is split up into 4 videos with the rest below the fold.
Update: I found the full 4 minute interview over at the Real Time site and Booker sort of ducked the question by going nto a pitch about how Newark is on the rise. Can you beat that?
I was just watching Bill Maher and he was showing video of interviews he conducted at the convention when he turned to Newark Mayor Cory Booker and posed this question:
What do you think John McCain would say if he found out that one of his homes was in Newark?
Unfortunately, I was laughing and missed the answer. I really need to get that DVR set up. If anyone saw it, let us know what the Mayor said. Until then, give us your best answer to the question.
