Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

Another hot summer week has passed and it’s time to begin the weekend in rhyming style. The Governor unveiled his gaming report which has made waves across the state. The calls continued for the Governor to restore funding for women’s health services. We learned that the FBI probe is growing in Toms River. It was GSE vs. NOM at the statehouse. Our Senators met with the British Prime Minister and kept up their calls for answers on ties between BP and Libya.  As usual, we’re not short on topics this week.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Meadowlands Race Tack

Race Track is for sale

Anyone want to go halves?

I have fifty cents

Next Topic: Gaming Commission report

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

Yet another busy summer week in Trenton. The Senate passed and Governor signed a cap on tax increases. Christie still says he has nothing to do with a slush fund touting his policies, even if he’s still their only guest speaker. Our Senators want answers from BP regarding their ties to Libya. Legislators kept pushing for women’s health funding while the Christie administration released the start of their privatization plans. Clearly we have plenty to work with once again.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Christie’s slush fund

Twenty Five Thousand

Christie is the special guest

More hypocrisy

Next Topic: Privatize the State

The Budget deadline is Monday and we’ve had hearings all week. Some programs like the SCI seem saved, but NJN and Women’s Health weren’t so lucky. Oil is still flowing into the Gulf and will not only be an environmental issue, but political one in the upcoming campaigns. We had more examples of Christie’s transparency and saw a medical marijuana delay advance. Clearly we’re not short on topics to rhyme about.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Getting the budget votes

GOP Revolt

We’re heading down the home stretch to the budget deadline and we have news coming from all over. Democrats seem to be letting the Republicans write the budget, the Christie administration is delaying medical marijuana, COAH is still on the chopping block along with the SCI and NJN. Oil is still flowing into the gulf and Hopeful got things started early pointing us to the BP haiku’s on twitter. That’s just touching the surface of what is going on so clearly there is plenty to work with.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

It’s time to begin the weekend in rhyming style. Primary elections are approaching, oil is still spilling into the gulf and there are fears growing that it’s coming our way, and the Governor is pushing forward with his power grab at the SCI.  The fallout from Christie’s decision to replace Wallace on the court continued and now Democrats are fighting amongst themselves when it comes to overriding the veto which gives a tax cut to millionaires.  Clearly we have plenty to work with once again

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Christie’s SCI power grab

Christie has power

But he wants oh so much more

So long SCI

Lets head into the holiday weekend in rhyming style. The House voted to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and oil is still flowing into the Gulf. The Governor wants to delay the medical marijuana law and while he uses the funds, he still won’t rule out joining a lawsuit to challenge the federal healthcare law. His plans to scrap the SCI have gotten more attention this week, while he continues to use one shot gimmicks to balance the budget. NJ got the 2014 superbowl and PSE&G wants to give it a new nuclear reactor as well. Don’t forget about the tough week Assemblyman DiCicco has had. As always, it wouldn’t be NJ if we didn’t have plenty of material to work with again this week.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Medical Marijuana

The budget fight rolled on this week. Democrats passed the millionaires tax and the Governor vetoed it. Christie “found money” thanks to the Federal healthcare plan allowing him to scrap a proposal to raise the cost of prescription drugs for seniors. We talked with Deborah Howlett of NJPP on Blue Jersey Radio. The AC Press wants the Governor to stop hiding financial information for himself and his administration and live up to his promises of transparency. Former Assemblyman Van Pelt was found guilty on corruption charges. Yup, plenty to work with once again this week to head into the weekend in rhyming style.

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

Has it been a busy week in New Jersey or what? We could rhyme about the millionaire’s tax, Jon Runyan or affordable housing. Maybe you’d rather talk about the Supreme Court, both state and federal, or oil. Possibly you’re in the mood to rhyme about the results of the non-partisan elections, the corruption trial of former Assemblyman Van Pelt, or the Governor’s lack of transparency on nominations this time. No matter your pleasure, there is plenty to work with.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

Students walked out. The Governor admitted property taxes are going up. Budget hearings continued. Immigration and Financial Reform, home rule and offshore drilling all also saw their share of attention and discussion this week. So as usual, we aren’t short on topics to rhyme about as we head into the upcoming weekend.

If you’re still digging out from the snow of the past week, maybe you want to take a break and take some time to rhyme. We can talk about states of emergency, both fiscal  and weather related. Or maybe you’d like to talk about the rush to gut COAH and take credit. Possibly you want to rhyme about Chris Mathews love for the “moderate” Scott Garrett.

Rules are simple: You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First topic: Fiscal state of Emergency

State of emergency
