My Candidacy for State Assembly in the 11th District

promoted by Rosi

When I saw the new 11th District Map, I decided after years of working behind the scenes, I wanted to place my name on the ballot. The new 11th Legislative District has 36,643 registered Democrats, 26,405 registered Republicans and 68,899 registered unaffiliated voters. The district is home to Asbury Park, Long Branch, Neptune, Red Bank, Freehold Borough, Tinton Falls and many other beautiful Monmouth County municipalities. Of the 18 towns in the district, 11 of those towns have 4,000 or more registered voters. Out of those 11 towns, 9 of them have more registered Democrats than Republicans, most of them overwhelmingly. 9 of the 11 big towns in the district have more registered Democrats than Republicans.

Get where I’m going with this? It is a Democratic district. Basically all the strong Democratic towns in Districts 11 and 12 got merged while all the strong Republican towns, including Wall (goodbye Sean Kean!), Rumson, Millstone, Brielle, Avon, Monmouth Beach, Sea Girt, Englishtown, Fair Haven, Little Silver (sorry Declan O’Scanlon), Manalapan, and Oceanport all got thrown into other legislative districts. It really is remarkable what happened here!

Rice hits the Spot

The Spot was packed last night for Ron C. Rice, Newark’s West Ward Councilman.  Richard Codey and Tom Giblin both praised this dynamic young man for his accomplishments and dedication to the people of the West Ward.  The praise for Rice was not limited just to Essex County.  Representatives from across the state came out to support this rising star.  People were energized, many could be heard discussing how to bring grassroots change to New Jersey. It was another very successful Vin Gopal event.  How the heck does he do it?

NJ Kucinich Organizers Endorse Obama

Update: Below the fold I’ve included the names I was provided of those who have endorsed Obama. As some have pointed out in the comments, this doesn’t mean that all or most Kucinich organizers endorsed Obama. For example, they could be endorsing John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, or vote for Kucinich anyway. Some Kucinich organizers in the comments argue that these people are not even “real” Kucinich supporters. I wasn’t involved in the campaign so I’ll let the folks in the comments speak for themselves.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich’s former national campaign manager and New Jersey native Vin Gopal today announced that he is endorsing Barack Obama noting that “both Kucinich and Obama opposed the war in Iraq from the start….New Jersey progressives need to unite behind a candidate who is right on the issues when it counts.”

“We appreciate the support from key members of Congressman Kucinich’s campaign organization,” said Obama’s New Jersey State Director Mark Alexander. “Congressman Kucinich has been an outspoken advocate for the things he believes in and cares deeply about, such as opposing the war in Iraq.  Every day, we are broadening our coalition of support, and we welcome these supporters to our team.”

Obama also picked up the support of Kucinich for President New Jersey State Co-Coordinator April Kuzas, Kucinich for President Hudson County Coordinator and New Jersey Iraqi Veterans for Peace President Michael Embrich, and over 2 dozen local, county and regional Kucinich for President organizers, activists and coordinators. “As a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, I know the importance of candidates being right the first time. Senator Obama was the only other candidate besides Congressman Kucinich who spoke out in opposition to lead up of the war in Iraq,” said Embrich.
