I declare Rainy Thursday Haiku

For a hundred reasons I could say – but I won’t – and a hundred more you can file under the general heading of because, I declare a Rainy Thursday Haiku. You remember the rules: 5 syllables, then 7, and 5 again. Write your haiku on the topic the last poster suggests, then call the next topic for the writer after you. Here are some to inspire you

All topics open, but I would love to hear how you’re going to win your campaign, what you’re doing today, what happens if the GOP takes the House … you get the idea. I’ll start:

Hot tomato soup

Cold outside, colder inside

Where did my friends go?

Next topic: Chris Christie for President

Blue Jersey Haiku Friday

It’s time to cruise into the weekend with haiku. Lots to news to write about. Menendez & Lautenberg are digging for the truth why the Lockerbie bomber is free. The right-wing gins up outrage over the Islamic cultural center 2 blocks from Ground Zero. CNN’s Top 100 House Races comes out, with 2 NJ races. SEC goes after NJ for securities fraud. Steve Sweeney’s Gloucester Freeholder Board gets slapped with a court-ordered monitor to check their transparency.

Remember the rules? Write your verse – 7 syllables, then 5, then 7 again – on the topic suggested, then you get to set the topic for the next haiku. I’ll start you off:

The Last Combat Troops Leave Iraq

Boots walk airport floor

Duffle hoisted on shoulder

Can’t be soon enough

Next topic: Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero

Friday Afternoon Haiku

Joe Ferriero walked out of court a free man this week. Nearly 1,000 with HIV/AIDS might not be dropped through a hole in the floor, after all. Honeywell, down the road from the Governor’s house, might get a golden deal. Intrepid Senators Menendez & Lautenberg are determined to find out whether BP pulled a fast one to get a Libyan oil deal. Obama came for a sub and some biz talk. And Christie’s on a privatizing kick (whether it works or not). And the Democrats are getting ready to try an override of Christie’s veto on funding 58 family-planning centers that care for uninsured and under-insured women.

There’s plenty of stuff to rhyme about. And you know the Rules: Compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5 again) on the topic the last poster gives you. Then you get to set the next topic. To start you off:

What happens in Atlantic City…

Atlantic City

Rainy Saturday Haiku

Jason and I are headed into a Blue Jersey meeting, so I thought it would be a good time to see who wants to get their poetry mojo on. That makes this Rainy Saturday Haiku. You know the rules – You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5 again) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you set the subject for the next haiku. Feel the power.

Loretta Weinberg chases Chris Christie out the back door – in 2 parts

Heels click in the hall

Scared rabbit runs out back door

Who looks tough now, eh?

Is the gov’ner in?

Who’s that? Turn off that camera

Um, er, he gone now.

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

The Budget deadline is Monday and we’ve had hearings all week. Some programs like the SCI seem saved, but NJN and Women’s Health weren’t so lucky. Oil is still flowing into the Gulf and will not only be an environmental issue, but political one in the upcoming campaigns. We had more examples of Christie’s transparency and saw a medical marijuana delay advance. Clearly we’re not short on topics to rhyme about.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Getting the budget votes

GOP Revolt

but they still do need their votes

It’s arm twisting time

Next Topic: No money for Women’s Health

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

It’s time to begin the weekend in rhyming style. Primary elections are approaching, oil is still spilling into the gulf and there are fears growing that it’s coming our way, and the Governor is pushing forward with his power grab at the SCI.  The fallout from Christie’s decision to replace Wallace on the court continued and now Democrats are fighting amongst themselves when it comes to overriding the veto which gives a tax cut to millionaires.  Clearly we have plenty to work with once again

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Christie’s SCI power grab

Christie has power

But he wants oh so much more

So long SCI

Next Topic: Primary Elections

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

Lets head into the holiday weekend in rhyming style. The House voted to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and oil is still flowing into the Gulf. The Governor wants to delay the medical marijuana law and while he uses the funds, he still won’t rule out joining a lawsuit to challenge the federal healthcare law. His plans to scrap the SCI have gotten more attention this week, while he continues to use one shot gimmicks to balance the budget. NJ got the 2014 superbowl and PSE&G wants to give it a new nuclear reactor as well. Don’t forget about the tough week Assemblyman DiCicco has had. As always, it wouldn’t be NJ if we didn’t have plenty of material to work with again this week.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Medical Marijuana

People are still sick

Christie says he needs more time

they suffer while they wait

Next Topic: Scrapping the SCI

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

The budget fight rolled on this week. Democrats passed the millionaires tax and the Governor vetoed it. Christie “found money” thanks to the Federal healthcare plan allowing him to scrap a proposal to raise the cost of prescription drugs for seniors. We talked with Deborah Howlett of NJPP on Blue Jersey Radio. The AC Press wants the Governor to stop hiding financial information for himself and his administration and live up to his promises of transparency. Former Assemblyman Van Pelt was found guilty on corruption charges. Yup, plenty to work with once again this week to head into the weekend in rhyming style.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Christie vetoes the millionaire’s tax

It took two minutes

Christie protects millionaires

Democrats your move

Next Topic: Christie Transparency

Blue Jersey Friday Haiku

Students walked out. The Governor admitted property taxes are going up. Budget hearings continued. Immigration and Financial Reform, home rule and offshore drilling all also saw their share of attention and discussion this week. So as usual, we aren’t short on topics to rhyme about as we head into the upcoming weekend.

Rules are simple:

You compose a haiku (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic the last poster suggests. Then you get to set the next topic.

First Topic: Students walk out

The students walked out

Christie says to get good grades

better than drug mules

Next Topic: Home rule

Lazy Friday Political Haiku

It’s been a good news, bad news week. Health care reform – imperfect, compromised – on its way to reality. Score, Obama! Which of course is driving right-wingers all over the country to pitch a nutty. The Hill, which watches such things, says momentum’s flipping back to the victorious Democrats so fast, the GOP’s got whiplash. And now, the bad news: Here in NJ, the budget is draconian, the governor eternally pissed off for some reason. And as these facts sink in, gloom settles upon the landscape.

Perfect haiku material. You remember the rules, right?  Write one (5 syllables, then 7, then 5) on the topic suggested, then suggest the next topic yourself. I’ll start:

Vice President F-bomb

He talks like I do

This is a big effing deal

Eat shit, GOP
