2016 Republican Presidential Primary Chugs Along

If you’re wondering why Chris Christie suddenly decided to sabotage his own state’s main rail project, look at what his potential 2016 Republican Presidential primary opponents have been up to in the last few months:

In Wisconsin, which got more than $810 million in federal stimulus money to build a train linebetween Milwaukee and Madison, Scott Walker, the Milwaukee County executive and Republican candidate for governor, has made his opposition to the project central to his campaign….

The potential Republican governors of Ohio, Florida, and California — all ideally positioned to run for President in our electoral college system — are also discussed in the NY Times article. You don’t think we’ll see another Senator become President anytime soon after the bailouts? Meg Whitman in particular dropped $100 million to be governor so imagine what she’d think the Presidency was worth. Christie had to move quickly to compete.

NJ Electoral College Meets Monday

From a State Committee press release:

The 56th New Jersey Electoral College will convene on Monday in Trenton to officially elect Barack Obama President and Joe Biden Vice President, capping a history-making election year that generated record voter participation and dramatic Democratic performance in New Jersey.

The 15 Democrats who comprise New Jersey’s College of Electors – equal to the size of the state’s Congressional delegation – will meet at the Constitutionally-determined time of 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 15th at the Trenton War Memorial to cast the electoral votes for President and Vice President.

Governor Jon Corzine and Newark Mayor Cory Booker will be the featured speakers.

Fun With Electoral College Math

Hmmm … I find the following information posted at the Huffington Post more than a little scary:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…

In short, at least some observers are predicting an Obama win without the necessity of a single swing state being taken.

What’s scary? The taint of inevitability, that’s what. I wouldn’t want McCain’s forces to steal a march on us while we’re thinking it’s a wrap.

So it’s a good time to put that Obama ’08 bumpersticker on the car, send your $10 to his campaign, talk it up with your neighbors, and watch out for more hungry, desperate neocon trolls on Blue Jersey. But don’t feed them! (that is, attempt to engage them in rational discourse).

What Does This Man Know That You Don’t?

Dr. John KozaAnswer: how to elect our next president by popular vote without getting rid of the Electoral College.

This week on Blue Jersey Radio: Dr. John Koza, Chairman of National Popular Vote Inc., tells us why the NJ Assembly just passed the Popular Vote Bill, why the Senate should follow suit, and what the chances are for this legislation to become law in time for 2008. What do you think?
