Taegan Goddard picked up on a point made by Huffington Post today, about the words not uttered by any of the RNC’s Day One speakers, including Gov. Christie in his much ballyhooed keynote: Bain Capital. Here’s the key paragraph:
“Not a single speaker was heard mentioning the name of the private equity firm founded by the Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney… It shows how toxic Bain has become for the former Massachusetts governor after sustaining attacks both from fellow Republicans during a vicious primary race and more recently from President Barack Obama’s campaign, which highlighted Bain’s investment in companies that sent American jobs overseas.”
Yesssss. Jedi mind-trick. I should have known.
They don’t want to talk about it. So it never happened. Not even Christie, who’s squandered the honor of the first-ever NJ Lieutenant Governor by deploying her to virtually nothing beyond making nice-nice with business. Not even Christie, ally to Cory Booker, who told Meet the Press that Obama’s harsh light on Romney’s Bain record was “nauseating” (mark 2:20). Not even Christie, who leads a state at 47th in economic growth, 4th-highest unemployment, lost the most jobs in the country last month and ranked 44th in personal income growth in the country.
Oh, wait. Now I see why Christie never mentioned Bain Capital, founded by Romney, debt-creator, destroyer of middle-class jobs, and cold dismantler of middle class family lives. I think I’m getting why Gov. Christie, with his own history and contempt for working people advocating for their own rights, would slip us right by that. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.
