House Leadership Races & NJ

On Thursday, the House Democrats will caucus to select leadership. While Pelosi is a shoo-in for Speaker, the battle for Leader is heating up. It’s between current minority whip, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland and Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania. Today, Pelosi came out in support of Murtha. How will New Jersey’s members vote? Help us keep tab in the comments.

For Hoyer: Frank Pallone (NJ-6), Albio Sires (NJ-13)
For Murtha: Bill Pascrell (NJ-8)

Rep. Pascrell Town Hall Meeting with Rep. Murtha @ Montclair State University

The afternoon at Montclair State started with a seventy something year old man, possibly trying to physically accost John Murtha. Police intervened, taking the senoir citezen away. Witnesses said the man was screaming “LIAR-LIAR”, and identified himself as a former Marine.

The rest of the Town Hall style meeting went smoothly, with both representatives swapping places in front of the microphones.

As you can imagine Pascrell and Murtha fielded many questions about the war in Iraq. Their were also questions on Homeland Security, the Health problems of First Responders on 9-11, & the Dept. of Peace (from a fan of Kooch). Bill Pascrell said he didn’t think that the Dept. of Peace was going to see the light of day anytime soon, but commented that with a democratic majority it would be something he would like to see.

John Murtha poses for pictures with Montclair State students at the end of the Town Hall meeting.

Vince Micco & Todd Riffle Latest Republicans to Challenge Murtha’s Courage

I guess Tom Wilson is tired of looking like a jackass in the NJ GOP press releases and e-mails, so now he’s having communications director Todd Riffle do it for him.

From an e-mail sent out today (emphasis mine):

New Jersey 9th Congressional District candidate Vice [sic] Micco will appear on the Hannity and Colmes T.V. program tonight at 9:00 PM to debate Rep. John Murtha’s Democrat view of the war and the call to cut and run from Iraq.

Vince will offer a special point of view since he served nine years in the U.S. Army, including a year in Iraq as a sergeant fighting terrorism as part of a counter-intelligence unit.

He experienced the war on the front lines, not from behind a desk in Washington D.C. He saw the good things U.S. Soldiers are doing there and how much the Iraqi families appreciate what Americans are doing for them. Vince is running for the U.S. Congress in the Ninth District (Bergen, Hudson, Passaic counties) now because he believes America cannot back down in the war on terrorism.

Tosser of the Day: Vincent Micco

Vincent Micco, the only guy the Republicans could convince to run in the 9th district against Rep. Steve Rothman, is the Tosser of the Day for his slanted, convoluted and rambling attack on Rep. John Murtha.

John Murtha is a decorated war veteran who served in both Korea and Vietnam, voted for both Iraq Wars and now believes things are out of hand and our troops need to come home.  He has consistently supported the troops, and said that it is the incompetence of the civilian leadership that has put them in the quagmire they suffer today.

In return, he is accused of being a traitor.

And that makes Vincent Micco our Tosser of the Day.
