Lautenberg Floor Speech Against Continuing Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy

I’ve been proud to be represented by Frank Lautenberg this month particularly. Tomorrow, most likely before noon, the Senate appears likely to pass an $858 billion tax-cut bill that will extend George Bush’s tax cuts, including for the wealthiest Americans, which would otherwise expire December 31; estate taxes will also be eased, shielding families passing down large inheritance. This was the frosted cupcake the GOP held out for in exchange for extending bread  – an extension of expanded jobless benefits – to out-of-work Americans. But Frank Lautenberg, one of the 10 richest men in Congress, who himself will benefit from President Obama’s deal with the GOP spoke out against it, tonight on the floor of the Senate, about two hours ago:
