Cromnibus Bans Feds From Raiding Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Diary rescue from late last night. Promoted by Rosi.

This is a major change in the nation’s drug policy, and we essentially have it thanks to the fact that most if not all legislators didn’t bother to read the massive spending bill that passed last weekend and is set to be signed by President Obama.

Tucked deep inside the 1,603-page federal spending measure is a provision that effectively ends the federal government’s prohibition on medical marijuana and signals a major shift in drug policy. …

Under the provision, states where medical pot is legal would no longer need to worry about federal drug agents raiding retail operations. Agents would be prohibited from doing so.

New Jersey is one of the states that permits medical marijuana, even if fifth tier Presidential candidate Chris Christie has been doing whatever he can to prevent sick people from getting the help their doctor’s prescribe.

The article says that the Obama admin has been essentially doing this anyway, but the bill protects from overzealous agents or new Presidential policy in 2017.

NJ First State With Medical Marijuana TV Ads

promoted by Rosi

Turns out NJ is the first state to have medical marijuana ads on the television. The website MarijuanaDoctors.com equates buying pot from a unregistered dealer with buying sushi on the street, which is kind of funny, but kind of stupid. For folks who already buy on the street it’s not a convincing argument, but for a grandma who needs it for glaucoma or a formerly straight-edge cancer patient, I can see it making a difference in how and where they buy.

All in all, though, it seems odd to have an exchange that will find you a doctor willing to prescribe one particular type of medicine rather than finding doctors to address certain types of conditions.

BloodThinnerDoctor.com would be weird, and ProteaseInhibitorDoctor.com even weirder. But I guess with not all doctors willing to prescribe this particular drug due to it’s controversial nature, it makes sense. Kind of.

Progressive’s Peter B. Lewis 1933-2013

“I am a progressive by birth, by nature, by philosophy – that’s the name of the insurance company I ran as well, which is coincidental – but I am a small “p” progressive. I don’t believe that laws against things that people do regularly, like safe and responsible use of marijuana, make any sense.”

                                                   – Peter B. Lewis 1933-2013

We don’t really cover business news here, except as the NJ-specific numbers  on indicators like job creation, unemployment, uninsured New Jerseyans, and economic recovery tell us about our quality of life here, and how Gov. Christie is doing (badly, generally). Or if there name is Zuckerberg.

But I just want to flag this for you, in case you didn’t see it.

A guy named Peter B. Lewis just died. He was the guy who ran Progressive Corporation – yes, Progressive Insurance, the people whose advertising features “Flo” the spokesperson with the Snooki bump in her hair.

Chris Christie Turns His Back on a Dying Child’s Father, Literally

promoted by Rosi

This story is not new, but this Reason.TV piece on it is.  This should be spread far and wide to combat the idea that Christie isn’t a right wing ideologue who cares more about his beliefs than the health of his constituents — including two year old girls.

I never understand why the GOP, the party of “small government,” is always so interested in getting between doctors and patients.  They want to limit medical marijuana prescriptions (including the kind that doesn’t get you stoned), prevent stem cell research, and ban doctor’s even talking about abortion without telling them what words to use.
