Rob Andrews backs Dingell

by: Hopeful

Tue Nov 11, 2008 at 02:28:41 AM EST

It's interesting to see that Rob Andrews is working as a whip to help Michigan Congressman John Dingell remain as chair of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee.  He's being challenged by liberal Henry Waxman because Dingell is generally viewed as working to water down fuel economy standards and broader global warming legislation, though he publicly supports some legislation on global warming.

It's particularly odd to see Andrews with this position since he joined Henry Waxman and the other six New Jersey Democratic Representatives in signing statement of legislative principles for comprehensive global warming legislation. ThinkProgress has implied they think it is because Andrews has received a lot of oil money.

Does anyone know why Andrews is backing Dingell? Please don't tell me he thinks it is  "outrageous and unacceptable" to challenge a more senior member.

"Dirty John Dingell" (0.00 / 0)
That's what USPIRG referred to him as back in the 1980s. Saying Dingell is generally viewed as working to water down fuel economy standards and broader global warming legislation is putting it charitably. Dingell's been the chief obstacle to all air pollution legislation for about a quarter century.

Perhaps with this new example, Andrews' boosters can see that just because their support was geographic doesn't mean our opposition was also geographically based.

Dingell the Dingbat And Andrews The... (0.00 / 0)
..... (do I really have to say it ;-)

John Dingell, more than any other single person is responsible for the collapse of the US auto industry.

He has "successfully" blocked all attempts to increase fuel efficiency and has allowed GM to get away with killing their successful electric car initiative.

Now there are waiting lines to buy the Prius at list price and no one wants to buy a gas guzzler (unless they, literally, have money to burn).

So, WTF is Andrews doing supporting the ecologically dirtiest Democrat in Congress over the most ethically demanding/pure representatives we have?

Given Bob Andrews' history, and his connections to the corrupt/dirty Norcross machine; I'd say there a story here for an intrepid investigative journalist with the time and the resources to "follow the money".

Meanwhile we're going to give GM nearly a hundred billion bucks before this is all over to keep on selling us cars that the Japanese made better 5 years earlier.

We need to let GM and all the non competitive companies go bust and THEN spend the 100 Billion bucks rebuilding the industry with all new upper management....and a new fleet of truly revolutionary vehicles that leap frogs over the Japanese.

The same applies to the financial "services" bailout/welfare/scam.

Not likely, eh?

Meanwhile, outside of a few folks who follow these things...no one will bother Andrews.

NJ has no investigative journalists left, hell we barely have any newspapers left.

Andrews has just been re-selected and has two years to screw his constituents and the nation to the financial advantage of polluters.

It's great that Barack is president; but folks....the bad guys are all still doing their shit under cover of this jubilant atmosphere.

The problem is that the real world doesn't fall for the illusions.   Global warming doesn't care about how good a con man Rob Andrews is.

The economic realities will all hit the fan eventually and we're going to end up with an all out effing depression at this rate.

I suppose that the 1% who will have squirreled away all the money think that they can then buy up "the world" cheap?

Bottom lines....Rob Andrews is laughing at all of us right now.   He lied to the whole NJ congrssional delegation and got away with it....now he thinks he's untouchable.

The guy is a bum.

Rob Andrews is a conundrum: (0.00 / 0)
When he's good, he is very, very good. When he's bad, he brings new meaning to the word "suck".

After his extended period of politica faux pas, I would think that the ever-ambitiour Rep. Andrews decided that aligning himself with someone with real clout was simply good for the best in ass-coverage.

To the Rep.: Please show us more than this. You have evinced good values and good judgement in the past. Try recapturing that, because it is the best ass-coverage of all.

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

i think (4.00 / 2)
andrews is going to find it very hard for him to ever win statewide after what just happened in this primary. Now with Congressman-Elect John Adler and the rise of Sen. Majority Leader Steve Sweeney, South Jersey has new players that have a much better shot at a statewide bid.

And if you look at other counties in Central Jersey like Monmouth and Ocean counties as a few, they love John Adler. Red Bank raised money for Adler. Pallone and Holt like Adler. I don't think the same can be said  for Andrews.

I think his time his done and a lot of people in this state would never support him for a future statewide run. Maybe seeing this, he is looking to for a House leadership position...Maybe Emanuel's? or maybe he wants to just start working the ranks and try to move up in Congress and get a more powerful chairmanship or something.

Who knows but thats my guess. I think we'll see him get more involved in house races.

Andrews did also donate a lot of money in 2008 to various House candidates, including the very liberal Dennis Kucinich.
