McCain plays race card on himself

by: Hopeful

Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 03:14:28 PM EDT

You've probably heard that John McCain's campaign is complaining that Barack Obama said that they'll attack him for not looking like the Presidents on dollar bills.

"So nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face," Obama said in Springfield. "So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like all those other Presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He's risky. That's essentially the argument they're making."

Today Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, sent out a message saying, "Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck. It's divisive, negative, shameful and wrong."

Shameful?  Divisive? Wrong?  Racist?  Too bad that blogger dhmlt 66 remembered that the McCain campaign did make fun of how Obama would look on money.  (See OpenLeft too.)  Now I'll confess I didn't pick up that the ad was racist, but if McCain's campaign manager says it is, who am I to doubt him?  Here's the screen capture from the webab as seen on youtube:

Maybe you're thinking this is a New Jersey blog.  Fortunately McCain made that connection too.  Here's another screen capture of McCain mocking a New Jersey landmark in the same:

McCain Web Ad

Naturally not one of the cable talking heads who are paid 6-7 figures per year to cover politics bothered to remember this.   Thank goodness for bloggers.  Maybe someone in the mainstream media will bother to report this.

at the least, this is a "gaffe" (4.00 / 1)
and should, therefore, be covered for a full day at least under normal rules for Democrats.

I have to think of a witty signature about Frank LoBiondo

McCain Has Sold His Soul to the Devil.... (4.00 / 1)
....it's that simple.

From the moment I saw the ad it was clearly a racist ploy/play on the old "black man with pretty young sexy white girl" trope.

This is the same crap they successfully pulled on Harold Ford in Tennessee and pulled on John McCain himself in 2000!!! (the whole thing about his "black baby".)

The other implication that Barack is an "uppity" black man is also an abominable racist ploy/play.

It's not good enough to simply debunk these ads on a rational intellectual basis, not even close.

This shit works at a direct reptilian/emotional level.   It plays on the "dark side" of corrupt human nature.

The only effective way to deal with it is to brightly illuminate it at the same level from which it comes and with an even higher intensity.

Obam himself must directly confront/challenge John McCain to justify this evil bullshit.   If that means a 90 minute "debate" between the two of them in just this one ad; then so be it.   If Barack Obam can't totally dispel this garbage he will lose.   Being right and being good just isn't enough....you also have to be able to kick the bullys ass in public.

There are people who figured out that the swift boating of Kerry was a lie...butthey still voted for Bush using the rationale that if Kerry can't deal with this kind of shit from an American opponent in an American election contest; how can he be trusted to handle real life and death shit from a future enemy?

Again, the fact that the blogosphere and the intelligent media will all see through these tactics means nothing much.    Most Americans don't have the time or the inclination for deep thought or to be deeply informed.....it's sad and tragic; but  that's the way it is (and the existing power structure does all it can to keep people as stupified and ignorant as possible).

Again, Obama must destroy John McCain or be destroyed by him.  The gloves are off.  There are no rules....and the stakes are immeasurably high.

If things are close in November; McCain wins.   They will steal it....again.

Obama has to be up by at least ten points the day before the election to insure a  victory.

McCain is so vulnerable on policy grounds and moral grounds that, if Obama TRULY goes for the jugular, he will win by 25 points.    McCain is a dirty (the dirt is real and documented...no need to make up any shit on this bum) and desperate sick man who doesn't even belong in the Senate at this point...he would actually be worse than Bush now that he's completely sold his soul to the forces of Rove.

btw  Thanks for finding a NJ angle.  :-)

McCain has said so many unpopular things (0.00 / 0)
that a heavy ad campaign of McCain's policies would just destroy him.

McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years -- until this month, when he suddenly says he will withdraw.

McCain wants to remove the tax deduction for employer-paid health care, so that everyone is thrown into the market on their own.  I can't believe many people who have insurance now think this is a good idea.

He wants to give himself a tax cut of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.  That would make a nice ad.
