Why is Gordon Johnson Shilling For The Railroads?

by: BlueBergen

Gordon Johnson sits on the transportation committee.

The Association of American Railroads paid for this ad.

CSX owns the railroads that run through the 37th district.

CSX is a member of the Association of American Railroads.

Assemblyman, Englewood City Councilman Gordon Johnson appears in this ad under his role as "Sheriff, Bergen County, New Jersey (retired).

This ad began running in publications such as Politico this month.

I smell a conflict of interest a brewing.

Gordon Johnson (4.00 / 1)
I don't see a problem with Gordon Johnson being in that railroad ad. I agree with the ads message to ease congestion, other obvious benefits: cleaner air and safer roads with less tractor trailers.  What is the problem? Sounds like good policy.
ps: I am not pro nor neah Gordon Johnson, in fact I am undecided since I have not heard back from him yet on the issue of racism in subjective "may issue" for concealed carry vs. "shall issue" which would remove potential racism from the process.

problem (0.00 / 0)
The problem may exist if he was paid to appear in this ad which goes beyond that of a simple testimonial.  I am suspicious because if there were no conflict, why did he use the title he used (retired sheriff)  instead of assemblyman or councilman?  If as a member of the transportation commitee he is voting on legislation that favors freight rail over light rail there is a conflict.  Also the railroads owned by CSX in his district have caused a lot of traffic headaches to his constituents and no one has been able to make any progress with the company as far as compliance goes.  There may be a reason nothing is getting done with regards to slow moving freights in teaneck and tenafly.  There may not be a legal dilemma (yet to be seen) but there appears to be an ethical dilemma.

stretching just a bit, aren't we? (4.00 / 2)
The jurisdiction over railroads is rather limited.  There are only four bills in the Assembly covering railroads.  The one that increases the taxes on railroads is sponsored by....
Assemblyman Gordon Johnson.

If that is a friend, I'd hate to see the enemies.  :-)

Before you throw out a lot of "concern," maybe you should contact the Association to find out if Johnson was even compensated?  Have you called his office to complain about the "problems" with CSX?

If pigs had wings (0.00 / 0)
If as a member of the transportation commitee he is voting on legislation that favors freight rail over light rail there is a conflict.

And if Gordon was on the trans committee .. as per Terry Malloy.

You have erred (4.00 / 2)
Not surprisingly, you have erred. Assemblyman Johnson has not been on the transportation committee in quite a while. He is Chairman of Public Safety and serves on the Budget and Homeland Security committees.

And as far as I can see, he is advocating for a national policy he has long promoted which is to relieve traffic congestion on highways across the country by putting more commerce onto trains.

Maybe he can get an Obama White House to implement incentives to do just that.

I definitely favor that, Railroads have been underutilized for many decades (4.00 / 1)
Korea has a 180 mph train..... thats getting replaced with a 300mph train.

Countries with good rail systems all have 300mph trains.

Same day ground delivery NY (10am)to LA(8pm), on a 300 mph train would take a lot of planes out of the air.

300mph passenger service on the east coast, especially in the Boston/DC corridor. That takes planes out of the air too.

And good jobs would be had building all this crap.

Is this dairy a hit peice?

What Absolute Hypocrisy! (0.00 / 0)
Here we have the kings and queens of the "pay to play" system questioning Gordon Johnson's advocacy of increased utilization of rail for shipping freight.

If there are any charges of illegality or of any kind of unethical behavior; please bring them on and do so with specificity.

Otherwise, this diary comes off as a clumsy and foolish attempt at a "hit piece" that is a pathetic indication of just how desperate the Ferierro minions must be to "change the subject".

I, for one, would love to see our rail system rebuilt to the point where there is no further need for "long haul" trucking.....and passenger rail could, in many instance, then replace air and highway travel.

Such a transformation would result in a cleaner America and an America less dependent on foreign oil.   The cost of goods would go down and there would be less wear and tear on our highways (and it would help to relieve traffic congestion too!).

Kudo's to Gordon Johnson for taking up this cause!!!

what would Barack Obama do? (0.00 / 0)
A special interest group is a special interest group and this is another case of Gordon Johnson's odd behavior that runs contradictory to his and his running mates' so-called agenda.
