There is a God

lol. Promoted from the diaries -- Juan

Garden State Equality's Legends Dinner is Saturday night and we had almost booked Eliot Spitzer, but a schedule conflict proved to be a snag.  Among the other names we considered was Geraldine Ferraro, who today made such a reprehensible comment about Barack Obama.  Oh my.   Nearly 500 people attending Saturday night and all I can say is, whew.

I guess Louis Farrakhan was busy?

great story.

I have to think of a witty signature about Frank LoBiondo

Ferraro worse than Spitzer (0.00 / 0)
Had you booked Ferraro, you probably would have had to cancel her and get someone else very quickly, but had you been able to book Spitzer, and he would have still been interested in speaking, which is highly unlikely under the circumstances, I don't think that you would have had to cancel him.

As awful as what he did was, it is most awful on a personal level than a public level and should not in any way detract from the fact that he was and is probably the number one champion of marriage equality amongst the 50 state governors currently sitting in their offices at this moment.

In fact, it is during times like these that it is most important for people in the midst of crisis like Spitzer is to know that despite the terrible damage that they have done to their own life and to the lives of others, the good that they have done will not be forgotten.

Conversely, it is truly pathetic and sad that the woman who I vocally supported in her Senate run in the early 90s could say such abhorrent things about Barack Obama and his Presidential candidacy.

It is particularly pathetic and sad to see the depths that so many once great people and institutions would reach and their willingness to put their credibility on the line for the Clintons, who would never in a million years consider doing the same for anybody else.

From NY-NOW to Bob Kerrey to Ed Rendell to Geraldine Ferraro, time and time again it appears that the Clintons have an ability to infect people with their win by any means necessary attitude.

Someone once came up with a list of people who had some kind of relationship with the Clintons and died mysteriously during their Bill's eight years in office.  I wonder if a similar list will be produced of the people who have irreparably damaged their credibility as a result of their advocacy for the Clintons.

....a martini would have ended up in her face.  talk about YouTube gold, eh?

    For the record (0.00 / 0)
When Ferraro ran for VEEP, she made a similar comment about herself. i.e. if she were a man, she'd never have been picked. At least she is not a hypocrite in that respect. Hubby was the problem.

Also for the record, one of the LGBT co-chairs of Obama's campaign just stepped down due to anti Hillary rhetoric that went over the line.

Politics is a blood sport, and there is blood all over!

    I remember (0.00 / 0)
You're right about Ferraro's earlier comment--I heard it at the time.  It was brave of Mondale to pick a woman as running mate--in 1984, BTW--and it was indeed her problem husband that made such grief for her.  On the other hand, though, nobody could have beaten Reagan (alas).

I haven't heard very much on the MSM about the ant-Hillary BS from that LGBT co-chair for Obama.  Curious.  Maybe they're afraid of you, Babs!  ;-)

    Maybe it's that people know Ferraro??? (0.00 / 0)
    Could it be???

Babs didn't even give the name.  We heard about Samantha Power, so obviously this is a much higher ranked person.

How much money did Ferraro raise?  Are they keeping it?

Also, while we're playing "can you top this?", is there an answer to my earlier question about how many LGBT delegates (not alternates) did Hillary elect (or even slate) during the primary?

He was actually from NJ (0.00 / 0)
Nice guy who was the Obama surrogate at our NJ Stonewall pre-primary social in January, and a former COO of the Human rights campaign.

    Dottie, you met him!

He sent me an e-mail from Texas very frustrated at what he perceived as campaign antics... and must have lost his cool over it. Hey, NJ has no monopoly on this kind of stuff.

I hope he is not turned off by the process, and will be active in the general election.

I may have met him but nonetheless I stand by my statement:

I haven't heard very much on the MSM about the ant-Hillary BS from that LGBT co-chair for Obama.  Curious.  Maybe they're afraid of you, Babs!  ;-)

I too hope he will be active in the general election--we've got to beat the Repugs!

Maybe we haven't heard because he is really a very low-ranking guy. (0.00 / 0)
But, the American people have shown a great appetite for the trivial, so maybe it is worthwhile to keep at it.  ;-)

    [ Parent ]
    Creed, you're right... (0.00 / 0)
about Americans' appetite for trivia.  Unfortunately the MSM continue to spoon-feed it.

My faculty colleagues thought I was nuts back in the 1960s when I observed that my students started to fidget every 12 minutes or so, and concluded that it was due to the rhythm of TV and the interval between commercials.  But I tested my hypothesis and documented it--too bad I never published it; now the interval has declined to 11 minutes and people are beginning to be more aware of the decline of the American attention span.

You have a point about attention spans, though.

    God's gay!

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

    Spitzer's "crime" (0.00 / 0)
was really stupidity--the great law & order guy, the Elliot Ness of New York, cracking down on Wall Street and the banks...then paying big bucks for sex.  And then there's the possible Mann Act violations, too.  What was he thinking, and with what?  Didn't it ever occur to him that the banks might be watching him for a change?

This is much worse than a campaign fuck-up, and it's a tremendous disappointment--we all expected better of him.  It just goes to show that hypocricy is a non-partisan, equal opportunity character flaw.  No politician pees perfume.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."  (Teddy Roosevelt)

    Steven ... (0.00 / 0)
you fed that to Markos, didn't you?

(That's why he is the best at what he does ... right now, the GSE Legends dinner is top of the page on dKos. If Steven DIDN'T do it, I know he wishes he had thought of it ... )

    Love ya, Steven. :-)

    [ Parent ]
    Swear we didn't give to Kos (4.00 / 1)
I've seen him on TV and think he's great!   But Blue Jersey is pretty much the only blog I read or deal with.   Which makes me very smart or very sheltered, depending on your view :-)
