Riley Slams Constitution-Hating Fearmonger Republicans

Terrorist Mailer in LD-8There's no justification for the cowardly and fundamentally un-Constitutional mailer sent out by the Republican candidates running in the 8th legislative district against Assembly candidate Tracy Riley. The irony of course is that they accuse their opponent of being soft on terrorism, while in the same breath trampling on the very rights and liberties our Constitution guarantees.

Who needs to fear terrorists when cowards within our own country like these three candidates are willing to undermine the fundamental rights that make America great?

Today, Tracy Riley responded to their outrageous attacks:

"Last week, the GOP took campaign literature to a disgusting new low. Their mail piece displays outright contempt for our Constitution and our democracy. My opponents' most recent effort to hide their record of failed leadership, tax increase after tax increase and insider deals to their cronies is light on facts and full of falsehoods," said Riley.

"I demand that my opponents apologize for this mailer that makes a mockery of our Constitution, makes a mockery of our democracy and makes a mockery of the serious threat of terrorism. In America, our legal system is the cornerstone of our democracy. To trivialize our Constitution and terrorist threats in the name of petty, partisan political gain is truly disgraceful. Haines, Rudder and Addiego must apologize for this. They should be ashamed of themselves," continued Riley.

"My commitment to public service is rooted in my desire to help those people who need help the most. That is why I am running for Assembly," stated Riley.

"How dare they question who I will represent in Trenton. I will always stand up for the honest, hard-working taxpayers of Burlington County. I will always fight to give our military, first responders and prosecutors the tools they need to keep us safe. Terrorism is a serious issue that we all must face together as a nation, regardless of party. To suggest otherwise is utterly reprehensible," concluded Riley.

Less a slam than a flail (0.00 / 0)
This is pretty rambling, and a week late.

Just say what you have to say in a couple sentences.  There's no need to wander around like this.

"My opponents should apologize for trivializing both the constitutional protections given to all Americans and the serious threats we face from terrorism.  This mail piece is an example of a sham campaign with no issues and no positive record to run on throwing any mud as hard as they can and hoping some of it sticks.

"I believe in the voters of the __ district and know that they, like I, support the rule of law and not the rule of fear."

That's not 100% perfect, but it's all I had in two minutes.

Pray for voter backlash, but (0.00 / 0)
Fight to win the race.

As stupid as this piece is (and it is incredibly stupid - charging Riley with the sin of being related to criminal defense attorneys!), stuff like this can't go unresponded to.

why is the mailer unconstitutional? (0.00 / 0)
As stupid as the mailer is, the Constitution protects Republicans too.  Their free speech rights enable them to be as stupid as they want to be.

And if the voters in LD8 are as stupid as these Republicans, then they are going to get the government that they deserve.

And a year from now, if these voters wonder why their Republican Assemblypersons and Senator are unable to deliver the same kinds of services as those Democrats in neighboring districts, someone can remind them that they bought into this line of BS that their elected representatives sold them.

And the rest of us can use our thumbs and forefingers to play the world's smallest violins just for the people who live in LD8.

you're right (0.00 / 0)
I mis-spoke. It's not the mailer itself that is un-Constitutional - I meant that the premise of it is. They 1. assume that those charged are already guilty and 2. criticize the legal defense of someone charged with a crime. Our justice system is based on the presumption of innocence and the right to a defense. You are correct: they have a Constitutionally-protected right to say whatever un-Constitutional things they want.

I think that anti-Constitutional is the word that you are going for here, unless you are intentionally using wordplay to make a point like the Republicans do when they refer to the "Democrat Party" instead of "Democratic Party", insinuating that there is nothing democratic about our political organization.
