TV Trucks kicked out of Bush Bash

by: Jason Springer

Wed May 30, 2007 at 06:48:16 PM EDT

So if you hold a party and only the hosts are willing to publicly say they will attend, what's the logical next step?  According to PoliticsNJ, its kick out the TV trucks...
Local news trucks prepared to cover President George W. Bush's attendance at a New Jersey Republican State Committee fundraiser in Edison this afternoon were asked to leave their designated area by police and secret service agents before the President's arrival.  Apparently the owner of the property did not grant proper permissions and wanted the television trucks out.
Hmm.. the owner didn't grant proper permissions, thats an excuse i hadn't planned on.  How embarrassing that not even the property owner wants to be associated with this disaster. They want his money but will go to great lengths to avoid the proof.  Anyone out there go to the protests?  Give us your stories if so...

Update- Mitch put up a diary with some pictures from today's festivities.

Update #2: From the Courier Post...

EDISON -- More than 150 protesters waved signs and chanted as President Bush's motorcade passed by shortly after 5 p.m. on its way to a Republican fundraiser at a convention hall in Raritan Center.

Update # 3:WNBC's Brian Thompson files a Back Story titled GOP embarrased at Bush NJ event saying...

Even the state police at the roadblock where we were moved to were chuckling over the GOP's embarrassing lack of preparation.

Amazing... (0.00 / 0)
There was a time in my life where I would have been happy to shake hands or meet or even see a sitting President in person, regardless of party. It's the President, you know? I'm sure I'm not alone in that. And now not even Republicans want to be near this guy. He's an embarrassment to our nation, and perhaps even worse, to his own party.

Heckuva job, Bushie. Heckuva job.

Wish I could have been there (0.00 / 0)
Looks like a good time was had by all!  And they even gave Rosi the microphone!!

I was there in spirit and in paint.  Freeway blogging is fun!!

What a great event today was (0.00 / 0)
I am so thankful for the hard work by Rosi, Citizen Action, the staff at the Democratic State Committee and all the other groups who helped make this a quite succesful, organic event.  The press coverage was amazing, especially after the Republicans realized at the last second that it might not be a good idea to have TV cameras inside their event.  I saw Tom Wilson on NJN News saying that many Republicans didn't show because they are working very hard on their primary campaigns.  Laughable.  I hope to have video of our event up tomorrow (i forgot to bring the AV cord with me).  I am Tivoing Channel 4 and Channel 9 news tonight.  If someone else could record News 12 and post it somehow.

Notes on Bush's UnWelcome (4.00 / 2)
The Star-Ledger has a photo essay on Bush's visit along with readers' comments. If you want a peak into the mindset (or lack thereof) of the 28% who are still supporting this total fraud of a leader, check out the following link and scroll to the bottom:

One thing that struck me at the rally was the difference between the Edison police and their counterparts in Westfield who handled crowd control when the president hosted a Social Security town meeting (open only to privatization supporters, of course). Whereas the Westfield cops acted as if they were auditioning for roles as Nazi storm troopers, the Edison police were friendly and helpful. Credit them and Mayor Jun Choi for demonstrating awareness and respect for the First Amendment. (In Edison, protestors were allowed closer to Bush than we were to Cheney when he was at the Princeton Forrestal raising money for Doug Forrester.)

Kudos also to the young multicultural chorus on the roof of the Bus for Change whose high-spirited chants kept us energized while waiting for the motorcade to pass.

My only regret is that our numbers weren't larger, and I'd encourage everyone reading this to show up next time. If nothing else, these rallies are an important way to connect -- or reconnect -- with like-minded souls and to strengthen our bonds of family and community.

I guess I was writing when you posted.  It looked like a lot of people were there from viewing the pictures that were put up.  I went to the Westfield gathering and am glad to hear the Edison police were better, and that everything went peacefully and apparently without incident, thereby demonstrating that people can behave responsibly.  Thank you people!

Excellent turn out to show displeasure with GWB.  Great to see so many people and all the signs and flags.  Great to see Andy and The Bus for Change, DFA, and all the other groups.  Thank you for attending!  I admire all of you and appreciate what you did.  Unfortunately, I couldn't miss work today.

Nice turnout by grass :)

Daily Kos Coverage (0.00 / 0)
This morning's Daily Kos features a photo-heavy diary of the rally, courtesy of ArgusRun, that is at the top of the "Recommended Diaries."

Nice to see our modestly-sized protest getting such wide publicity.

Shut down the turnpike? (0.00 / 0)
Did they really shut down the turnpike (#10 to 14, I think I heard) at rush hour for Bush to come in?
