Suggestion to the Weinberg Team Campaign... (0.00 / 0)
...blow this up into a poster and plaster it across the whole County and State!!!

This picture is worth a million words!

Jimmy Margulies deserves a Pulitzer prize (do they have one for political cartoons?) for this work of inspired genius!

Me thinks Jimmy Margulies...... gets it. (0.00 / 0)

Check out my 3 paragraph primer on Polywell Fusion.

Oh yeah. (0.00 / 0)
Margulies gets it.

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.

wow... (0.00 / 0)
Loretta is the Werthan Productions of NJ.

Making a martyr of Weinberg (0.00 / 0)
To attack a woman in her seventies who is also a widow is just bad politics.

It's the kind of politics that backfires and ultimately ends in disaster.

So why is Ferriero and company traveling down this road of defeat?

Wildes can't beat Weinberg. It's really that simple.

He can raise all the money in the world and have his picture taken with every member of Congress, Clinton, Kennedy, The Sugar Hill Gang and the cast from American Idol and it won't change the results!

I wonder if he'll use his Leiberman picture now that he's an Independent? Was it okay for Mayor Wildes to endorse Joe Leiberman over the Democratic nominee, Ned Lamont? If so, I guess it was okay for Valerie Huttle to endorse Dr. Stern?

In the end, what's the difference?

Do they think painting Weinberg as ethically challenged with Violet Cherry is a recipe for victory?

99% of primary voters have no idea who she is and really don't care. Some obscure bureaucrat who is in a political battle with Ferriero is not going to take down Weinberg.

JAF really needs to reconsider the kind of campaign he's going to authorize. Already you have The Record coming to Loretta's rescue.

You don't attack a grandmother who doubles as a widow and longtime party activist. There isn't a political person in Bergen County who doesn't know this woman.

Memo to the Chairman. Stop taking advice from those who personally "hate" the opposition. That kind of emotional attack has no place in the campaign and will only gurantee a Weinberg sweep.

Hey Joe, if you want to win you will ignore Loretta and focus on your true target.

Most of That Actually Made a Modicum of Sense.... (0.00 / 0)
Though I shudder to ask what you specifically mean by...

focus on your true target.

"Focus..."  Focus what?  Attacks? Smears?  Worse?  What?

"...true target"  What is that?  Who is that?  What is it specifically that you want your "good" buddy Joe Ferriero to aim at this "target"?

Please, tell us what you really mean.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thank you.

It's pretty obvious. (0.00 / 0)
Ferriero seems to have a problem with Weinberg's running mates, not Weinberg.

That wasn't and isn't a mystery.

His problem really seems to be who will be the next senator after Weinberg leaves the legislature. It seems pretty obvious he wants anyone except Valerie Huttle.

Does that unravel the mystery everyone else seems to already know except you?

[ Parent ]
Why then (4.00 / 1)
Did forgeries appear and a whole month long court case happen for Senator Weinberg's special election? Wildes has it out for Valerie, she embarrassed him.  He couldn't win an election even when the BCDO was trying to steal it for him to get back at Weinberg supporters.  It's a grudge match of Wildes vs Huttle and Wildes vs. Johnson and Ferriero vs. Weinberg.  Ken Zisa is just along for the ride.

One Vote. Yours. It really does matter.

[ Parent ]
yes and no (4.00 / 1)
This whole brouhaha started back in 2005 when Ferriero tried to install Zisa as Baer's replacement in the State Senate and was beaten by Weinberg.  Zisa is hardly an innocent bystander in this whole morality play.  He is driven by the same ambitions and lust for power that drives Ferriero and Wildes.

If anybody appears to be just along for the ride, it is Cid Wilson.  He's got everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Ethnic attack (1.00 / 3)
I'm outraged that anyone--particularly readers of this site--would condone this sort of ethnically charged attack. It's outrageous and insulting to insinuate because Ferriero is successful and Italian-American, he achieved success through mob tactics.

Shame on Marguiles for drawing it and shame on The Record for printing it. The Italian-American community deserves an apology.

mock outrage (4.00 / 2)
wait. you email me a photo of a can of dead fish and you claim ignorance of what it means, but this is "outrageous"?

[ Parent ]
Internationally Italians are in an uproar over this cartoon. (4.00 / 1)
jmelli, how could you overlook that?

/snark

Check out my 3 paragraph primer on Polywell Fusion.

[ Parent ]
They did that? (4.00 / 1)
We should give them the evil eye then.......

One Vote. Yours. It really does matter.

[ Parent ]
I thought it was tongue and cheek. (4.00 / 1)
I would imagine Ferriero and friends would frame that cartoon as it only enhances the reputation as being larger than life itself.

It was funny. I don't think it implied anything else.

If Italian-Americans can cope with The Soprano's, Scorcese movies and other ongoing stereotypes, this cartoon is mild by comparison...

"Get the cannolis, leave the gun...."

As an Italian American Bergen County Committeewoman (4.00 / 4)
I am appalled ....that you guys can't take a joke.  Especially when YOU are the ones putting Italian Americans in Bergen County in a bad light by intimidating voters (like me) challenging us at special elections and forging signatures to get your way.  YOU are acting like characters straight out of the Sopranos.  So don't feign indignance at the similarity especially when you do not speak for the whole County Committee.  Fifty of us CC members ASKED Loretta to run on a different line because of your behavior.  You may not have killed a CC member, but you have destroyed their lives and their careers when they did not agree with you.  Straighten up and fly right or don't be surprised when you get called out on it - in public.

Remember - they got the gansters on tax evasion.  Well this week, when some CC members wanted to actually look at your annual financial reports, which according to the bylaws we should be allowed to simply walk in and get, we were prevented.  That's right.  The BCDO is hiding something and if they are all above board and alterboys and choir girls, we should be able to easily get that info - but in violation of the bylaws, we were denied.

Tell me you don't think forgery is a crime, or voter intimidation or kickbacks are a crime, or withholding financial reports when they should be available to any county committee members who requests them is a crime or a coverup for one, and if you don't think Ferriero is organized about how he condones this nonsense, then you are the only ones.  They don't call it ORGANIZED CRIME for nothin'.

So, even if you don't see the humor, the rest of Bergen County does.  We're laughing at the moment but give us at least that - what we really want to do is cry.

There is only one thing I would change on that cartoon.  Senator Weinberg is not scared of Joe Ferriero and his goons.  She wouldn't look that surprised.

So, in closing - Pleasant dreams.  If Ferriero-crats are really honest to gosh golly gee whiz swell kids, you should all sleep like babies.

One Vote. Yours. It really does matter.

In the words of Bugs Bunny (4.00 / 2)
What a marroon!  Oh brudda.

Come June it ain't going to be duck season or rabbit season...it'll be Ferrierocrat season.

A Sad Stretch... (0.00 / 0)
If that's the best counter you have to this cutting (the truth hurts) cartoon, I have to tell ya; it doesn't fly.

By feigning "outrage" in this manner; you only bring more attention to the underhanded bullying hyper-domineering tactics of your Chairman.

Don't you get it?  You're busted. Nobody believes you.

The "emperor" has no clothes! (now that would make an interesting cartoon)

You folks have to realize that the twentieth century is in the past.

There is no future in pay to play.

You don't need all that bloody money to win elections; you just need to be good decent Democrats practicing the politics of common human decency!

Please, evolve, or get out of the way. There is no future for dinosaurs in our party.

If you/Joe Ferriero truly wish to begin healing the rift in our party so that we can get on with the real business of improving the quality of life for ALL the residents of Bergen County; I invite you to consider participating in an open live no holds barred debate/forum where Joseph Ferriero and Loretta Weinberg and a couple of associated  "players" on each side can freely speak to each other and address questions and comments from an general audience.  Let's have it in a big space so there's room for all...and let it be a full evening; say three hours.

Let's put the results on the web for all to see and let the people decide.

The people is what your line of business is about; y'all seem to have forgotten that.

[ Parent ]
I'm not an Italian-American, and I don't play one on TV (4.00 / 1)
But as David Frost said to Richard Nixon, on TV,
"fold it 5 times, and put it where the moon doesn't shine".

Check out my 3 paragraph primer on Polywell Fusion.

will Bill Pascrell weigh in? (0.00 / 0)
Much to the chagrin of his erstwhile staffers, anytime there is ever a public incident, involving the potential slurring of Italian-Americans, tongue-in-cheek or otherwise, Bill Pascrell holds a press conference to denounce it.

If Pascrell hasn't called for the head of Jimmy Margulies on a platter to date, then this cartoon is probably kosher.

[ Parent ]
Pascrell is No Dummy... (0.00 / 0)
...no way is he going to carry water for Ferriero on this.

In the words of a Sinatra song.."and now-- the end is near"
The chairman might consider a vacation...a long one.

outrageous (0.00 / 0)
On behalf of the Princeton-based Bergen County chapter of the Frank Sinatra fan club, I am outraged that you would mention Ol' Blue Eyes in the same thread as Joe Ferriero. You should be ashamed of yourself.
