Wide Lead For Weinberg

by: Juan Melli

Fri Mar 02, 2007 at 08:56:15 PM EST

Sources say Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37) had a poll in the field with Benenson Strategy Group of Manhattan that puts her with a greater than 3-1 lead over Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes in the June Democratic Primary.

We have no independent corroboration, but if anyone from Loretta's camp wants to confirm or deny this we are happy to alter the story in any way to get it right.

Update: These numbers are accurate (64% - 20%), and the Assembly candidates on Weinberg's slate also have a healthy lead. Also, EMILY's list is now involved in the campaign. They have sent a campaign coordinator to help organize.

Well... (0.00 / 0)
That news must have some people drinking doubles right now.

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

Good numbers for Weinberg. (0.00 / 0)
I suspect this is an accurate representation of the race at this moment.  I'd be curious to see the internals, specifically the name recognition of the two candidates.  If Wildes has high name recognition outside of Englewood, these are really bad numbers; if not, he has room to grow as the campaigns begin to raise his name recognition.  At this point, I'd be much more surprised if a 15-year incumbent didn't have these kind of numbers.

Name Recognition is one thing (4.00 / 1)
Character recognition is quite another....

One Vote. Yours. It really does matter.

...my gut instincts.

The Weinberg candidacy has the potential to become THE antidote to what ails the political infrastructure of the BCDO.

The Weinberg situation serves to ILLUMINATE the underlying issues of pay to play de facto corruption.  The more light that is shed on Wildes and his ilk (i.e. creatures of pay to play de facto coruption) the less the general public (let alone Democratic primary voters) will want anything to do with them.

All the conventional BS campaign methodologies and the millions of dollars the BCDO has access to can't make a turd smell like a rose.

If there are any progressives who are qualified (surely there must be a bunch) I urge y'all to run in every district and in every race against anyone who is aligned with folks like Wildes and Ferriero.

Petition deadline (4.00 / 1)
For those county committee seats up in the 2007 primary, the petition filing deadline is 4 pm April 9th.

Bergen elects their CC in even years (0.00 / 0)
Sadly, this would have been the perfect year to have county committee elections in Bergen County.

It will be far more complicated next year, which is why it is so important for Frank Lautenberg, Steve Rothman, and whomever is running for Congress in the 5th district to agree to run with neither the BCDO slate or the opposition slate.

I wonder if it would be better for county committee elections to be held every year rather than every other year.  Any thoughts?

DottieG is 100% Right on One Point... (0.00 / 0)
and that is that NOW is the time to begin organizing for the next BCDO CC elections.  The fact that they'll be held next year just gives enough time to be more effective.

Meanwhile, there are any number of races in Bergen County that  could benefit from the participation of qualified anti-legalized bribery/pay to play progressives.  I still say that there needs to be a full alternative slate of pro-good government Democrats on the primary ballot.

Bergen County rank and file registered Democrats deserve an opportunity to vote for unreconstructed progressives in every race.

Let's "get it together" people!

By the way; to all who read me here and would like to constructively communicate re acting on some of the various issues/ideas we talk about in this place, you're welcome to do so at unboughtandunbossed@gmail.com.

I'm in eastern Bergen County... (0.00 / 0)
...but I've also headed down south to chip in a day working for Stender; I believe we to grow a broad based coalition of individuals willing/able to actually show up on occasion to achieve common aims.

Geographical proximity is certainly one factor; but it's far from being the sole determinant of peoples capacity to co-operate.

It's a matter of numbers, focus and priorities.

Draft Nick Lento for State Senate in the 38th (0.00 / 0)
Unless someone else has already stepped forward to take on Joe Coniglio, I cannot think of a better person to do it than Nick.  When I talk about the need for inspiring candidates with enthusiasm and passion, Nick Lento is the poster child.

As much as I like Bob Gordon and Joan Voss, when push comes to shove and a line is drawn in the sand, they are with Joe Ferriero and that disappoints me to no end.  I would love to see either of them run off the line against Coniglio, Ferriero's #2 stooge (Paul Sarlo is #1) in the State Senate with the other running off the line with another Assembly candidate (Nick would be good for that too), but I know that is simply not going to happen.

Synchronistic Significance!?! :-) (0.00 / 0)
If you look at the front page in the "Recent Comments" column your last two subject lines (when put together) read,  "Draft Nick Lento for State Senate...in what universe..."

Ya gotta laugh, eh?

Thanks for the thought. At the Wellstone Training I took the campaign staff/support track, I think I'd better stay "on track" for now.

I'm with you to the extent that I will make an effort to encourage folks with more political experience to take on Coniglio (or whomever the BCDO puts up).

Obviously, it's a super long shot if the aim is to win the primary...on the other hand, simply putting together the effort and garnering a few hundred (thousand?) votes from the folks who are actually aware of what's going on would be worthwhile as it will build up organization, momentum, experience and will for next time.

Is there a "universe" in which I would run?  Sure, but it highly improbable.  I believe that applies to many of the folk who post here.  Meanwhile, I may have already "bitten off" more than I can "chew".

I sure would love to see people with the intelligence and integrity of folks like you and XT run for office!  (Can you imagine how HE would shake things up at "Tammany on the Hudson"! :-)
