Tonight I attended the fundraiser for Jon Corzine at NJPAC. It was billed on Corzine's site as an Acoustic Performance by Jon Bon Jovi. E-mails from the campaign touted it as the Jon Bon Jovi event for Governor Corzine. As a huge Bon Jovi fan, I was very excited for this event and happily paid for my ticket.
I was in the third tier (cheap) seats with a few dozen of my new friends and fellow Bon Jovi fans. We were thrilled when he opened with Who Says You Can't Go Home. We loved it when the went old school with a little Livin' On A Prayer. Next was a cover of Here Comes The Sun. Then he said good night.
Huh?
We were jipped. And we felt lied to. Three songs should not be billed as The Bon Jovi Event. Many people there were not political junkies and had never made a political donation before. They came to see Jon and didn't mind making the political donation to do so. And they left feeling swindled out of their 50 or more dollars. They were angry and some of them tried to shout down the Governor as he made the closing remarks.
Next time, Gov, please be honest. You had a chance to bring new supporters into the fold. Now those first time donors are going to remain one time donors.
