My congratulations to Bergen County

And I hope those congratulations are only technically premature and that Ferriero's grip on the levers of power is permanently removed. We in Middlesex beat you by a few years, but we're happy to now have the company of the only county more populous than we are.

I also hope that the more advanced state of the reform movement in Bergen means that the removal of one crooked boss will have a stronger salutary effect up north than it did here. We had a brief period of politics representative of the people rather than of the entrenched machines several years before Lynch went down. That was caused by the collapse of corrupt local machines in our two most populous municipalities, Woodbridge and Edison. But by the time Lynch became a guest of the United States, his absence created no more of a ripple than the death of one Chinese leader and replacement by another first among equals would.

Anyway, the Bergen machine is at the least in flux. In Essex, the mayor of the largest municipality in the state is seemingly at odds with the rest of the county's elite. Hudson's power has been decentralized for decades. So suppose our governor does not run for reelection. Does the partial decline in county machines open the way for a people-powered campaign for the nomination? Or does it merely hand more power to Norcross and Lesniak?

Power to pick next Governor (0.00 / 0)
"So suppose our governor does not run for reelection?"

Interesting Question. My question is who would people here  pick from a selection between Sweeney and Codey?

As power brokers fall by the way side the selection must come from those who fill the void.

Power brokers or not there are still only so many realistic choices.

Without a Corzine candidacy the Democratic Primary will probably be fought between Sweeney and Codey.

Agree?

Who gets the nod?

I might take out petitions. (0.00 / 0)

Why only... (0.00 / 0)
Sweeney and Codey? Essex County Exec Joe D has also said he'd want in, Congressman Pascrell has too. Byrne is thinking about it. Once the Free-for-All off Andrews and Pallone jumps in, why not Booker? Once you have a three way split in Essex, wouldn't Weinberg become a player in Bergen, then Sen. Cunningham might jump in. It promises to be a beautiful thing. D-E-M-O-C-R-A-C-Y! With enough in, it may only take 20% to win.

Thank you for the support (0.00 / 0)
I am glad we will have a united BCDO to help elect Obama, but we need to watch closely as for what happens next with the BCDO.  It should be interesting.....

One Vote. Yours. It really does matter.

time for us to unite! (4.00 / 1)
this is the time for the RBD's to take control of the BCDO and bring honest and open government to Bergen County once and for all.

Assuming The Ferierro Dynasty Is Over... (0.00 / 0)
.....it sure would be a shame if the forces for change were somehow co-opted into a "gentler/kinder" version of the old machine.

I agree with you ananjester, the RBD contingent needs to unite and expand in order to become dominant.

Simply removing (again assuming that he's not just "winged") JF does not by itself equal reform....would that it were so simple or so easy.

thanks nick! (0.00 / 0)
I have a brother named nick but he prefers nicky even though he's 49 yrs old . anyways, for right now our major focus should be on November's election the democrats have to give their all in getting obama elected. all this negative press is not helping. If JF
truly cares for the party he should step down.
