Healy's principles costs Jersey City $400,000

by: Thurman Hart

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 09:46:33 PM EDT

Earl Morgan, one of my favorite writers at the Jersey Journal, tells us today that Mayor Healy - defended on this site to me as a "man of principles" and a politician who exists outside of the machinations of Hudson County politics - is costing Jersey City $400,000 to settle a sexual harrassment case.

The suit was filed by 25-year officer Marisa Johnston, who accused former Police Chief Robert Troy, among others, of creating a hostile work environment while he was her superior in the department's Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Healy appointed Troy within days of taking office in November 2004.  He defended the incompetent chief throughout his tenure, and when he retired, Healy stuck him in the Parking Authority.

Here's the "principle" that has guided Da Mare:

Johnston's lawsuit was one of two filed simultaneously against Troy in 2005. The other court action was brought by another female cop, Valerie Montone. The Montone suit is still pending.

Montone, a 25-year cop who is still a member of the JCPD with the rank of sergeant, named Troy and Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy in her lawsuit.

Montone claimed Healy and Troy blocked her from moving up in rank after both she and Johnston supported former Assemblyman Louis Manzo when he opposed Healy in the 2004 mayoral race.

The emphasis is mine.  Because, you know, I come not to praise Healy, but to point out his principles.  On a personal note, I've seen these women on patrol, and they do their uniform proud.  Shame on Healy.

Keep grinding (4.00 / 1)
Thurman,

I guess you overlooked the fact that Montone has filed several lawsuits over her years against the JCPD or the fact when they gave her a cushy desk job  and later her on film sleeping at her desk while on duty.

Oh yeah, again you have your own personal ax to grind, so keep grinding and blame your poor research of the facts on not finding it on the Internet.

As always, providing nothing but facts (0.00 / 0)

If Healy was guilty of anything, it was in appointing Troy...

Because the officer claims that the big mad machine blocked her from moving up, she HAS to be right and Healy HAS to be the bad guy.

Doesn't that sound a little self-serving and difficult to establish by the alleged victim?

Publish some facts once in awhile. Or how about the fact that over a dozen Jersey City police officers supported Lou Manzo last year (according to the Jersey Journal) and none of them feel the way Montone does.
