Do NJ Republicans want Bush to stay home from the Convention too?

by: Jason Springer

Sat Jul 05, 2008 at 11:24:53 AM EDT

I haven't seen any of our NJ Republicans take a stand on whether they want President Bush to join them at the GOP Convention, but that hasn't stopped others including California Congressman Dana Rohrabacher from suggesting he forgo the festivities:
I don't think there are a lot of people who want to see him at the convention, said Mr. Rohrabacher, who is especially irked with Mr. Bush for his stance on immigration. He said the president should stay home from the Republican convention, and everybody would be better off.
I can't disagree with him that the party might be better off, but it does beg the question of whether NJ Republicans want George Bush to stay home from the convention too?  Or will they welcome their fearless leader and all the baggage he brings?

what they want (3.00 / 1)
N.J. Republicans don't want Bush's baggage, but they'd sure like his money and fundraising prowess at their disposal. Remember their poorly-planned Bush fundraiser in 2007? Afterwards, they could then disperse Bush-raised funds through the statewide organization to individual candidates without the stigma of the president next to them.  We couldn't even get anyone besides Lance and one or two others to admit they were attending that one.

Bush is somewhat the equivalent of Bill Clinton when it comes to ego, so I imagine he'll want to put himself front and center at the Convention. I've even heard on the MSM that Cheney is due to speak there (no kidding).

Heads they lose; tails we win. (0.00 / 0)
Having him at the convention would damage them. Having him absent would be such a conspicuous oddity, and for embarrassing reasons, that it would do almost as much harm as making him the keynote speaker.

Who'd want to be seen with him? (0.00 / 0)
His popularity is somewhere between small pox and anal leakage. I don't want to say anything bad about the guy, but maybe his mother threw out the baby and kept the afterbirth.
Why would New Jersey Republicans want distance between themselves and the the guy they enabled for eight years?
Hang Bush, Cheney and Rove around their necks like a rotting albatross

Restore democracy and the Constitution for which it stands.
