Election 2008

The final results for New Jersey are in with no surprises, except perhaps a 10% undervote in the US Senate race.

Candidate Chris Christie

Chris Christie is telling reporters to wait "four to six weeks" before he makes his decision on whether or not to run for governor.

Christie's most recent campaign event came yesterday, when he called in to Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton's WFAN radio show to call for leniency for Plaxico Burress.

State Senate

Loretta Weinberg joined the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, filling the seat vacated by Congressman-elect John Adler.

Hospitals

The state will distribute $44 million to six hospitals on the brink of closing because of financial problems.

The media

Gannett is laying off 206 employees at its six New Jersey newspapers.

Bergen County

When will the BCDO finally ask Joe to go?

New Brunswick

A New Brunswick government reform group is suing the city clerk, Daniel Torrisi.

Atlantic City

The Atlantic City Surf Minor Leauge Baseball team is offering fans a chance to "own" a share of the team.

Barnegat Lighthouse

The Barnegat Lighthouse's beacon will shine again on January 1, 2009.

The undervote was 10.9% statewide. But in:
Hudson: 20.4%
Essex: 17.2%
Union: 15.9%
Passaic: 13.8%
Camden: 13.5%

Which probably means that Jersey City, Newark, East Orange, Elizabeth, Paterson, Passaic and Camden had undervotes over 25%.

For example, in Atlantic City the turnout was 51% compared to the countywide of 68%. The drop-off (even taking the independent candidates into account) was 20.13% compared with a countywide drop-off of 8.7%.

This also shows that next year may be rather interesting.
