is anyone else annoyed by the way torricelli's sitting (0.00 / 0)

Funny (0.00 / 0)
It was the first thing I noticed.

(also - his very presence provides the answer to a question floating in some recent diaries - in politics, there is always a second act. And a third, and ....)

Yes, His Posture Was Weird.... (0.00 / 0)
...unless he really has some major pain in his shoulder requires that kind of a stretch....but even then he could have worn a brace to get that effect and simply sat normally.

That body language screams, this is my living room and my space and I'm going to sit in it any damn way I please.

Having said that, Toricelli rebuffed and rebutted most of the Republican bullshit spin.

Juan was way too passive and deferential in this debut.  We know he's sharp and brilliant when he "let's loose".   I'm sure that we'll see the real Juan next time out.

If those two Bush lovers had said here what they said on the air; the old  Juan would have cleverly sent them to "school".   Juan was just fine, but he can do much much much better.

The bit about Palin being some kind of future for the Republican party was a joke.   Torricelli fed into it because, I suspect that as a partisan Democrat, he wants her in the Senate!   lol

As far as Obama goes, there is NOTHING he will do that won't be labeled as left wing radical, unless he becomes a functional Republican.

Obama has a chance to really make some changes; if he acts as if the people that voted him into office are somehow, expendable baggage he can dump into "the back of the bus"  and kow tows to the Republican "center right" bullshit; he will be a failed one term president.

Obama has the solid potential to actually move the American people to where HE is and where WE are.

He needs to be giving news conferences once a week, going onto TV at least once a week on shows like Oprah, The View, Larry King, Rachel Maddow (and yes the late night comedy shows).

Obama needs to become a familiar fixture in every home in America and he must make the case for REAL/transformative change so strong that no amount of corporate spin will confuse people.

As Juan said on the show, Obama never said he would govern from "the center" (especially the Republican's view of "the center").....he said he would strive to be non partisan.

Torricelli was very astute when he noted that Obama doesn't need 60 Democratic votes to defeat filibusters.   He just needs to peel off the most moderate Republicans (or those coming up for election in 2010!!!).

If we don't see at least 10 filibuster attempts in 2009 it means that the Dems aren't pushing their/our agenda hard enough!!!

If Democrats actually STAND for something, and Obama uses his bully pulpit to get the country behind a Real Democratic agenda (as opposed to a corporate welfare agenda) we'll do just fine in 2010, and beyond!

Just about everything Bush did in the last 8 years needs to be reversed/repaired...and that's not going to happen if we're meek and "polite".

Ahh, it was a tactical error on Juan's part. (4.00 / 1)
He should have worn "The Tie" and he would have has everyone in the room quaking with pants-wetting fear and hiding under the couch. Torch would have been sitting up bolt-straight and going "yessir, nosir" to Juan.

That tie has magical +12 powers that have yet to be tapped.  It could well be called "The Vorpal Tie". ;-)

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.
