Quote of the Day: State of the Republicans

by: Jason Springer

Fri Nov 07, 2008 at 11:08:02 AM EST

Republican State Senator Joe Pennacchio offers this analysis of his party:
"If our party publicly expressed satisfaction with New Jersey and National Republican results in Tuesday's election, all they were doing was  reinforcing rank and file Republican cynicism for our party's leadership," he said.  "Once again Republicans find themselves with no message, no money and no direction going into next year's gubernatorial election.  To say our Republicans 'Ship of State' was run aground by our captain, would imply that it had a direction.  That simply was not so."
He may want to talk to his State Chairman Tom Wilson, who thought election night was like New Year's because once the clock struck midnight they were all ready for the 2009 elections.   Wilson must not have many fun New Year's celebrations if he enjoyed Tuesday night.

Well (4.00 / 1)
it sounds like Regular Joe wants to be the Regular Party Leader.  But I disagree - his party does have a direction.  It's just the direction the majority of people in the state and country don't want to take.

69% of Republicans say Sarah Palin helped John McCain.  Meanwhile 53% of Americans say she does not agree with them on important issues.

Dick Zimmer should be glad he was underfunded.  The more people find out about the GOP, the less they like it.

Where is Baroni? (4.00 / 1)
The Republican leadership is filled with " small timers". Wilson, Lonegan, Pennacchio, DeCroce, etc. are clueless.

If I was a Republican and I wanted to reshape the Party in a manner that can actually start winning elections and not just running in elections I would look at Baroni. The moderates in that Party better take control or they will never win. They should throw out the right wing fanatics and start a Party in the true tradition of the old Republican Party, smaller government, fiscal sanity, respect for the strict word of the Constitution. They of course will lose at first, but that is what they are doing anyway.

Let Lonegan and those other screwballs form a Conservative Party and put up candidates that want to control all the social issues.

In the mean time the most important statewide elections will still be the Democratic Primaries.

Democratic Primaries? (0.00 / 0)
Are you suggesting we are going to start having serious statewide democratic primaries?

Sweeney vs. Codey (0.00 / 0)
That will be serious.

If Corzine leaves that is.

Maybe throw another North Jersey Dem in for a good mix.
