4 Year Old Kendy Rudy Voted For Obama Today

by: nathanrudy

Tue Nov 04, 2008 at 01:25:33 PM EST

Promoted by Jason Springer:  I voted for Kendy's future today.

My daughter was born on July 2, 2004.  I was running for Somerset County Freeholder that year on a ticket with John Kerry and John Edwards for President and the first election after her birth was on November 2, 2004 -- her four month birthday.  We took a picture or two to commemorate.  The first is her at the polling location in North Plainfield, NJ and the other is Kendy in a Rudy for Freeholder onesie and her beautiful mother Maureen at the staging place for our GOTV effort.

That night we lost.  I knew I was going to lose, but I thought John Kerry would be my next President.  Instead Bush won, and my daughter had to spend the first four years of her life living under that ... man.

We've worked hard as hell over the past four years to win.  We started a PAC with a blog to take down Mike Ferguson in NJ7, we've worked hard on creating a progressive majority in all of New Jersey, we recruited more and better Demcorats, and we've fought against the idiotic and devastating policies of the Republican party and its representatives.

Which brings us to today, and the opportunity we have brought to the table.  It's time to win, and time to once again share it with my daughter.

Every election since that awful day I've taken pictures of Kendy at the polling place. Here's the one from today.

Kendy came in to the ballot booth with me, and I asked her who to vote for.  She looked at me like I was nuts and said, "O-BAM-A!"  I said OK, pressed the button and we walked out.

She came out of the booth and I asked her if she voted and she started to chant again, "O-BAM-A!"

Four years old, the little monster, and she's already violating election laws by campaigning in a polling place.

When I was four years old my parents dragged me around in support of George McGovern, an election that changed our country.  Back then it was unfathomable that anyone but a white guy could be President.  In fact, four years ago I would have said that it was unlikely to happen in my lifetime but I hoped it would happen in my daughter's.

Now I am confident that on January 20, 2009 Barack Obama will be the first black President of the United States.  My daughter will grow up in a world where it is not only possible, but it is fact.

I spent the rest of the morning working on GOTV and doing some challenging.  I came home in between polling places to have lunch and to write this.  Now I go back out to make sure it is fact.

Obama for President.  Amazing.

And my little monster gets to be a part of it.
