John McCain cuts GOTV budget, TV ads instead

by: FogerRox

The Washington Post is reporting:

The vaunted, 72-hour plan that President Bush used to mobilize voters in 2000 and 2004 has been scaled back for McCain,

It looks like John McCain has a made another brilliant move, forgoing an intensive GOTV effort and putting the money into TV Ads instead. Brilliant for Barack Obama that is. I'll bet you a cup of Coffee that these ads will go real negative, "Obama and Satan sacrifice kittens at Alter of Death" and such.

With Millions of Obama volunteers geared up & ready for the final 3 day push, McCain is ceding the Obama superiority in ground game, which we've seen in the primary and it's no 2nd rate organization.

Scott Reed, an informal McCain adviser who in 1996 ran Bob Dole's presidential bid, said the campaign made the right call by dedicating more money to its media effort. Ads are the most efficient way to persuade undecided voters, and possibly convince some who are only tepidly backing Obama, he said.

?Obama still has not closed the deal,? Reed said. ?He's still polling under 50 (percent) in most of these battleground states. Don't forget, a lot of people make these decisions late.?

Mt Reed fails to note that Mr Obama is ahead in most of those Battleground states. States that went for Bush, not Kerry. Frankly Obamas better ground game should be worth 3 to 5 points on election day, if so, McCain stands to lose 10 to 12 of those battleground states.

Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Edward Rendell acknowledges that Obama has a lead in his state greater than the number of undecideds but said there could be a problem if Democrats have trouble getting out their supporters.

GOTV, thats what its about. Obama is about tommorow, not yesterday. Lets seal the deal.
