When do I get my best canvassers back from PA? Nov 5th ?

by: FogerRox

Wed Oct 29, 2008 at 11:54:51 PM EDT

I signed up at MyBO, and proceeded to create canvass events in my area, joined all the groups around my area.

I get at least 4-5 emails every day about recruiting people for PA, enough already. Obama is up in PA almost as much as in New Jersey.

I kept hearing about how Obama thought the down ticket races are so important, but come on enough is enough. Obama sent an email out to Obama supporters in NJ-11, asking them to vote for Frank Lautenberg, with no mention of Tom Wyka, whats up with that ?

Is Obama coat tails going to make up the split for Tom Wyka, or Dennis Shulman, could Linda Stender use 80 more canvassers ? What about Adler.. hes up in the polls, but gheesh.

SO My friends and I have run roll playing training sessions for people that have never canvassed before. But I had one lady in Livingston quit after an hour, and I paired her with an experienced canvasser. SIGH.

I see 4 Congressional races that in the right conditions, coat tails, that we could flip, and with Obama leading Tom Wyka in NJ-11, thats going to be important.

But PA is in good shape in the polls, when do I get my best peole back? Nov 5th?

Sigh.

You know what Jay, I'll let the congressional results for PA & NJ (4.00 / 2)
speak for themselves on election night.

RCP has no republican incumbants in PA listed, and 2 dems in trouble, PA-10 & PA-11, which are in NE PA.

The D-trip lists PA-3 & PA-13, PA-6, PA-15, PA-3 is NW PA, so I doubt NJ folk are driving all the way there. In PA-11, Kanjorski is up 7 pts (Barletta 43, Kanjorski 39)

SO Jay... do you see Pennsylvania's need greater than NJ ? IF you do, make your case...

At this point in time, I see New Jersey needs as much greater than PA. ANd I included Adler in that need. I have made my case.

NJ can flip many more Republican House seats, than can be flipped by NJ people going to PA.

Its no longer about just Obama, its about the down ticket races.

If Adler is the only one of the 4 that win (4.00 / 1)
I think there will be a lot of buyers remorse.

If you're not already signed up to go, stay. (4.00 / 2)
Pennsylvania is still a (the?) principal target of the McCain/Palin campaigns lies. Work there is not wasted. If you're signed up, don't abck out.

But, as you say, it looks quite good there. If you have time that's not yet spoken for, work in New Jersey.

Dave ..Whats your take on (4.00 / 1)
Eastern PA Congressional needs vs NJ Congressional needs, see above.

I'm trying to make the case that we need our people back for GOTV in districts that have a much better chance of flipping a republican seat here in NJ, than in any district in eastern PA.

Better here, I think. But it depends. (4.00 / 2)
We ought to be able to take PA-06, but it looks like that won't happen this year, and likely not until the next redsitricting may give Gerlach some territory where he is less known. PA-15 also seems like it may have to wait for another year. If congressional races were the only consideration, that would be enough to keep home anyone who doesn't have special ties to Pennsylvania. And i'd guess the Democratic incumbents will prevail.

But the Presidential race isn't quite over. McCain, wisely or not, is making a special effort in Pennsylvania. Any scenario where McCain wins the Presidency will combine better than expected results for him overall with specific gains in key states. If election day actually does move in that direction, Pennsylvania would quite possibly be the fulcrum state.

I don't think that's likely enough to make new plans to leave New Jersey. I do think it's plausible enough so that if you've already told the Obama campaign you'll be there, you should be there.

I will be in Allentown, which happens to be in PA-15.

YOu seem to arguing for a more balanced take on things (4.00 / 1)
A level headed take IMHO. Thanks.

By the way, I use the Hebrew version of my name. (4.00 / 3)
There's no good way to spell it in English, hence the "Dvd", which is the letter-for-letter transcription of the Hebrew. It's pronounced more or less the same as it is in Spanish, French, Russian, and Greek, if you know any of those better than Hebrew.

Dvd it is. Call me Roj (4.00 / 2)
or "that one" will do - lol.
