BREAKING NEWS: The Cashew October Surprise

by: Thurman Hart

Mon Oct 27, 2008 at 01:17:01 PM EDT

From PNJ: we find audio of this exchange:
Jesmer: "Garrett's a nut."

Shulman: "What?"

Jesmer: "Scott Garrett's a nut.  That's who your dad's running against, right?"

"Shulman" is Holly Shulman, daughter of Dennis Shulman.  Who is "Jesmer"?
At a rally for U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in Houston on Saturday, Cornyn Campaign Manager Rob Jesmer probably did not notice the digital recorder when he struck up a conversation with Democratic rival Rick Noriega's press secretary, Holly Shulman.

Jesmer -- who was presidential candidate John McCain's political director for two months before quitting in July of last year, when his campaign seemed to be flailing -- asked Shulman about her father Dennis's chances in New

So here's your October Surprise: Even Republicans know that Scott Garrett is a nut.  But then, that really isn't much of a surprise, is it?

This Just Confirms What I and Others Have Been.... (0.00 / 0)
...saying here and elsewhere, for years.

Garrett is a creature of extremist (Pseudo) Christian Fundamenatlism.

I don't believe Garrett is a "nut" in the conventional sense of the word; but I do believe that he is an agent of a movement that is, at the core, delusional.

Dennis Shulman, being a Rabbi, is constrained from directly attacking Garrett for being an instrument of religious fanaticism.

At the Sussex debate I attended I watched a TV reporter interview Garrett and didn't hear her asking him the simple questions:

Will you, here and now, disavow and condem the Dominionist movement and it's aims?

Will you, here and now, proclaim that creationism is a religious belief system that has no business being "taught" in our public schools?

Do you, personally, believe that Darwin was wrong and that the universe/Earth/world was "created" some thousands of years ago as the most extreme adherents of creationism preach?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...  Or is your view more nuanced?

The press has failed miserably in pressing Garrett on these points!!!

Garrett is front for a movement that would impose a Theocracy if it could.   I don't trust the guy at a basic level....and when you add to that all the actual political/policy positions that he takes that are just plain wrong and barely defensible, it's astounding that no one has kicked his political ass....yet.

I pray (yes, pray!) that Dennis Shulman will succeed where others have failed.

the BCDO (0.00 / 0)
are going to be squarely to blame if Dennis loses this election.  He has been miserably underfunded and still has a REAL shot at beating Garrett, the same poll that showed him down 15% last month now has him down only 5%. This race is closing fast and i really think Dennis will pull it off.
That being said the BCDO were fine with throwing millions into their FREEHOLDER PRIMARIES but yet can't give Dennis a dime?  Is that a joke? If he had the funding that he deserved i don't even think this race would be that close, and if he does lose in a very close race we can point the blame squarely on them for squandering a seat that has been Republican for about 30 years.

Perhaps Dennis (4.00 / 2)
should have given a fortune to Joe Ferriero.  Then they'd care.

[ Parent ]
The entire seat of Joe Ferriero's power (4.00 / 1)
was his ability to fund and control county elections.  He would rather lose the Congress or the White House even if it meant he could keep his grubby hands on County Government which greased the wheels of the Pay to Play machine he built.  It is a monster and its always hungry.  Not a dime does he spare for good government outside of his fiefdom.

Unfortunately, Ferriero still has his hands on the BCDO through surrogates like Lynne Hurwitz, who is running the Freeholder race.  A loss of freeholder seats would mean the beginning of the end of Ferriero's reign.  I am collecting signatures from County Committee folks to get Ferriero's actual resignation, not just a "stepping down".  I have a feeling, even if he "resigns", just like a mafia Don, he'll be giving orders from behind bars unless Bergen County Government is no longer in his grip.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

miserably underfunded? (0.00 / 0)
yeah right.

not true, Shulman's rolling with enough cash, just see what he's raised. didn't his camp mang. just issue something recently saying Shulman matched or beat Garrett in the last quarter?

Get your facts right and then come a'posting.

Shulman Is Running An Uphill Battle.... (0.00 / 0)
...against an entrenched incumbent.

Garrett is indeed entrenched; but he's also very vulnerable.

Shulman may yet defy all the odds and the pundits and win; but in a clean BCDO he would have started the race with a million bucks in his pocket to get out 95% of the BC vote and to increase that vote by 50k.

Garrett, to this day still hasn't condemned (or even separated/distanced himself from) the radical right wing extremist pseudo-Christian un-American Dominionist movement that would impose a theocracy if it/they could.

Garret is a chickenshit coward who is so afraid of being interviewed by the tame NJ press that he runs away when they approach.

At least Sarah Palin has the excuse that's she's (relatively) stupid and ignorant; Garrett is neither....he's just ashamed of his core beliefs.   That makes him a dangerous hypocrite.

Palin is ignorant (0.00 / 0)
..but NOT stupid!

That makes her dangerous!

Dangerous For All Sorts of Reasons.... (4.00 / 1)
That's why I stuck the word "relatively" in there.

I dare say that Bush and Palin's IQs are within a few points of each other.   That makes them fairly smart compared to the "average"; but when compared to the caliber of people who mormally operate at the level of the White House; they both are indeed relatively stupid.

Each of them is "blessed" with certain kinds of "advantages" that give them different kinds of "edges" and each of them has ambitiously exploited those advantages.

Hey, even "Joe the Plumber" now has an agent and wants to find some way to monetize his meagre assets.

Palin ain't goin' away.  She'll be a fixture o the scene for years and will likely collect hundreds of thousands of dollars a night on the "lecture circuit".

An Obama win is the beginning of a whole new kind of campaign.  The forces of hate and bigotry aren't going to give up.   From Palin's perspective an Obama presidency is a chance for her to ply her trade....and this time without the restraints that the McCain people put on her.

The ideology behind Palin is similar to that which is behind Garrett....and it's all based on a per-version of pseudo-Christianity.

Only constant vigilance and their being thoroughly drubbed in every election right down to the local school board level (which is where these people sneak into the legitimate system) will clean this up.

This election is a battle for the heart and soul of America; but the war continues on November 5th.

There are those who wish to destroy/Balkanize this nation (all in the name of "God" of course) and they aren't giving up just because they lose on November 4th.

Heaven help us from "true believers" of all stripes.   Here's a recent example of her deranged and dangerous "reasoning"  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

In her "mind" Palin likely actually believes this delusional non sense....and so will many millions of her followers....many of whom are well armed and on the edge.

This country will need lots of light and love (tough and otherwise) and healing after the election.

Comment On Dit, 'Prank Call'?

By Julie Bosman

OCALA, Fla. - Gov. Sarah Palin has been punk'd.

A pair of Canadian comedians, notorious for pranking politicians and heads of state, reached Ms. Palin on Saturday and pretended to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

According to an audio recording, a press aide handed the phone to Ms. Palin, who enthusiastically greeted the fake Sarkozy, "It's so good to hear you, thank you for calling us." She added, "We have such great respect for you, John McCain and I. We love you!"

Ya gotta hear this....

http://www.justiciers.tv/

The tragedy of this comedy is how naively clueless Palin and her "screener" were.

This should disqualify her from holding any position of responsibility for the rest of her life....on the other hand these are the same people who believe that "Joe the Plumber" is a man of character and integrity.

Hey, in a world of "Palin the Pesident" anything is possible, eh?

Idiot guy. (0.00 / 0)
Jesmer was probably just hitting on what's-her-face-Shulman.

And, who records a campaign rally like that, anyway?

It Was Her Job To Record The Rally..... (0.00 / 0)
....that's what politically active people do at opposition rallies.

If he was hitting on her; then all the more sweet is the fact that he screwed up big time by actually telling the truth about what most Republicans really believe about Garrett.

Even by Republican standards Garrett is an extremist nutjob.  (BTW it's interesting to hear that McCain people are saying the same sorts of things, off the record, about Palin!)

By the way, Reb, the more y'all try to defend Garrett or minimize the revelations about him; the more attention and light you bring to Garrett.

I suggest you call up Scotty's campaign and ask them if they appreciate your "help".   :-)

Welcome to BlueJersey Reb.

Elephant Troll Haggis (4.00 / 1)
1 lb boneless lamb shoulder or breast, cut into pieces (or ground lamb)
1/2 lb lamb liver, cut into pieces
       1/2 c  water
       1 small onion, coarsely chopped
       1 large egg
       3/4 ts salt
       3/4 ts pepper, black
       1/2 ts sugar
       1/4 ts ginger, ground
       1/8 ts cloves, ground
       1/8 ts nutmeg, ground
1 c oats, rolled, old fashioned

Heat oven to 350-F. Grease an 8 1/2 by 4 1/2 inch loaf pan.

In food processor with chopping blade, process together half of the lamb, the liver, water, onion, egg, salt, pepper, sugar, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg until well combined. Add the remaining half of the lamb and the oats; process until well combined.

Spoon lamb mixture into the greased pan; pat surface to level. Bake 45 to 55 minutes or until center feels firm when gently pressed. Cool 5 minutes in pan; unmold onto platter; slice and serve.

Notes: This skinless haggis is planned for American tastes, yet contains many of the ingredients found in the real thing. You can unmold the loaf and serve it in place of the purchased haggis recipes.
