Why Do Republicans Hate The American Flag

by: huntsu

Tue Oct 21, 2008 at 04:41:31 PM EDT

From John McCain's rally yesterday at St. Charles, Missouri.  There ought to be an amendment /snark

American Flag etiquette:

When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously.

Update: For anyone who doesn't get why I would post this, it is to highlight the hypocrisy of the right wing nuts who regularly attack liberals if a flag pin is not worn or flags at a political rally are stored for future use.  I don't actually have a problem with the McCain folks packing this flag this way, because how else are you going to do it?

I don't care how big the flag is, you don't let it touch the ground.  I'm a flaming lefty and I know that.  If you don't have enough people or equipment to hold it up, get a smaller flag.

And if they can't clean the flag, they need to destroy it by burning it (also on the cited page).

Well, those cops walking around sure could have helped.  It's amazing that no one, no one, even took a second look at the flag on the ground.

Would be dereliction of duty (0.00 / 0)
Cops are there for security, not to help set up the scenery.

Yeah, but (0.00 / 0)
those cops sure like to be wrapped up in the warmth of that flag, don't they.

I think that (0.00 / 0)
is simply a blanket statement that has no evidence to support it one way or the other.  Besides that, there is nothing wrong with respecting the flag and honoring it.

generalization (0.00 / 0)
I think you may need to get to know a few more cops.  Their ardent non-cop right wing supporters are like that, but most cops I know are pretty easy-going folks.
