Bruce and Billy to play for Barack

by: Hopeful

Tue Sep 30, 2008 at 05:48:26 PM EDT

I might get my posting privileges revoked for this, but I'd prefer Billy Joel to Bruce Springsteen any day of the week.  But you don't need to agree with me, because they're both playing at a Special Concert for Barack Obama:

Join us for CHANGE ROCKS at The Hammerstein Ballroom
featuring Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen & Friends.
Thursday, October 16 @ 8:30 PM
.

That form asks $2,500 for a Premier Seat, but the NYT says you can get in balcony for a mere $500 contribution.

Update: Atrios points out there is also a free Springsteen concert in Philly.  They are looking for volunteers there.

Make It Available on Pay Per View..... (4.00 / 1)
....the folks paying the full freight won't mind.  It'll still sell out and many many millions of Obama supporters would be happy to spend, say, 50 bucks, to watch it on cable!

Barack will need to money to win this one.

No doubt there will be more "October Surprises" to come from the Bush/Rove/McCain/Palin team.

I would love to see Obama raise and spend 500 Million additional bucks in the next 4 weeks; that's what it'll take to break the pattern set by these Rovian crooks and liars.

Let's see now, that's 11 million concert parties for Barack at 50 bucks a piece....less ten percent for overhead.....

If anyone out there thinks it's a good idea please pass it along to the Obama campaign!

;-)

Interesting... (4.00 / 1)
Gotta hand it to you, Nick.  I kinda like this one at first blush.  No idea what the FEC regs are about making money from cable providers on a PPV/On-Demand event, but there's a small army of election lawyers who I'm sure would be willing to help figure it out!

I See No Problems With Legalities... (4.00 / 1)
...it's just an electronic extension of the live event.

So long as the campaign was willing to pay any up front underwriting/expense costs to the cable network there's no reason it couldn't be put together within a few days.

Obviously the Boss and Billy would have to approve too.

I couldn't afford even the $500.00 "cheap seats"  lol.   This is a way for folks to get together and chip in to cover the $50.00 bucks (yes yes they would certainly have to fill out the FEC campaign contribution form....but that's no real issue with internet sign ups linked to the cable network's payment inbox).

Call me silly but I believe it's quite doable...if anyone out there agrees with me and has any pipelines into the campaign please pass this up the chain.

Both in 2000 and 2004 we had a superior candidate and a lead in the polls, only to see it snatched away at the last minute.

Let's shoot for an Obama landslide this time asd really take back our country from the people that have given us the current mess.

They will not let go easily, and they will spend heavily in ways that don't show up on FEC filings.

Another $500,000,000 million might just make a difference!!!

Can we do it?

Yes, we can!

this is a great idea (0.00 / 0)
Obama pioneered a number of clever ideas: small dollar fundraiser rallies, selling tee shirts as donations.  This is another good idea.
