Happy Birthday Blue Jersey

1172270909_Happy BirthdayOn September 28, 2005, the artist formerly known as Blue Jersey Founder Juan Melli brought together a group of bloggers and started BlueJersey.net, because the .com was taken at the time.  Here is his first substantive post on the blog for a look back.

Now three years later, we own .com and this is diary #9,158. We're over 1.15 million page views, 3 million visits, have over 2700 users and still have received 0 subpoenas.

This blog won the 2007 Lieutenant Laurel Hester Prize for Citizen Courage and the Commercial Closet Award through our work creating the Think Equal campaign.

We stream live each week with our Blue Jersey Radio show and have also seen our founder, state house reporter and initial intern launch their own successful careers after gaining recognition through their work here at home.

What has been your favorite moment?  For me, it was when we launched Jill Hazelbaker's career as an astroturfer.  To this day, her wikipedia entry has this in the third line:

Hazelbaker's name earlier came to public attention in connection with an accusation of astroturfing [2] at the time she was press secretary for Tom Kean Jr.'s 2006 campaign for the US Senate in New Jersey. Hazelbaker denied involvement in those activities.
Thank you to our readers for joining us on this wild ride and thanks to Juan for starting this long strange trip.

Happy Birfday, d00d and d00dessas! (4.00 / 1)
Of course, as we account for all our favorite moments, mine was, of course, The Tie. I am not sure which was better: the tie itself, the apparent respect(and dare I say, fear?) mirrored on the faces of the other worthies in the picture, when confronted with someone with the grit to wear such a cravat, or the comments on The Tie. All I can say is that I ain't had so much fun since the pigs ate my little brother.

My least favorite moment was when Dr. Mr. Melli PhD. announced he was outta here. Of course, my heart rejoices when anyone finds gainful employment in the midst of The Bush Economic Miracle, but the place just ain't the same without the kid around here, getting underfoot.

Ahh, well, when you get older, one's heart does turn to all things maudlin.

And every time Hazlebaker is seen on TV, pushing the bounds of normative reality, as is her wont, we who know her best do get quite the chuckle, no?

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

My favorite moment (3.50 / 2)
was when we forced Chris Christie to resign for abuse of office.

OK, it hasn't happened yet, but a girl can dream!

lookback (4.00 / 1)
what's on tap to make BlueJersey's FUTURE as interesting and innovative as its past?

an 11-2 House Majority (4.00 / 2)
for the Dems!

Stender and Adler crush, Shulman and Zeitz win close ones, and suddenly Frelinghuysen and Lobiondo are VERY lonely.

As noted above, a girl can dream!

Laurel hester Prize (4.00 / 4)
hands down my most proud moment was the Hester Prize given by Garden State Equality to Blue Jersey for the central roll the blog played fighting for civil unions.

but it's not over, yet.

Can't Believe it's only 3 (4.00 / 1)
Blue Jersey is the first blog I read each day.  You all are among the finest people I know.  Even the esteemed Dr. Melli, PhD, who is no longer "underfoot."

Happy Birthday!!!

Linda
