Look! There Goes Junior's Raison d'être!

We haven't seen Kean Jr's first ad yet, but we know what to expect.  As a moderate Republican in a blue state that doesn't like Bush much, the logic that Kean Jr. will likely come out with is this:

Yes, I know 60% of you don't like George Bush.  I'm not a Bush Republican..he doesn't speak for me.  But the Republicans are in power at the Federal level, and I can get you more as a Republican, as an inside guy, than if you keep electing people who will be on the outside.  I'm in the room.  Oh yeah, did I mention that my dad was.....

The U.A.E. port deal, but more importantly Bush's threatened veto crumbles Kean Jr's Raison d'être! and makes a clear example that New Jerseyans are better served by an opposition party than a 'guy on the inside'

After all, leaders of the Republican Congress like Frist and Hastert, whether it was triangulation or not, have opposed the deal and that did precious little to change Bush's mind.  He'll keep them in line with a veto if he has to - how dare they not follow the marching orders.

Being 'in the room' never meant so little.

For anybody looking at this situation, the idea of electing yet another Republican Senator to represent the best interests of New Jersey in Washington won't seem like such a good idea, and the idea of sending someone down there to check the President sounds better.

I can see Mendendez in the debate saying, "Yes, Tom, you Republicans tried to cooperate with this White House, and New Jersey got sold up the river..or harbor, in this case!"
