Capitalizing on Corruption

by: Thurman Hart

Thu Sep 18, 2008 at 05:57:34 PM EDT

I have to admit, I laughed when I read about the new Institute on Corruption Studies being based at Rutgers in Newark.  I'm usually good at drawing analogies, but this is just so analogous on its own that it defies me.

The new institute will have broader horizons, said its new director, Adam Graycar, former director of the Australian Institute of Criminology. It will work internationally with agencies, companies, non-governmental organizations, and nations who seek to strengthen their economic and governmental infrastructure and integrity.

I look forward to seeing this new endeavor crank out some research.  It should be enlightening.

I got a case study for them! (0.00 / 0)

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

A Waste of Millions of Dollars... (0.00 / 0)
.....no doubt Rutgers is making a significant dollar investment in this academic exercise.

They would have been much better off funding a Law Clinic dedicated to fighting corruption in New Jersey.

Imagine the effect of dozens (hundreds?) of smart eager law students taking on all the cases that Chris Christie Ann Milgram & Company ignore.

There are hundreds of whistleblowers and victims of all manner of corrupt practices that routinely get screwed and ignored in New Jersey.

We don't need any more "studies" to elucidate what corruption is; we need more instruments and actions and well educated soldiers to fight it on a practical level.

What a fantastic opportunity to learn by doing this could have been if Rutgers was allowed to be serious in this effort.

you could actually read about the program before you dismiss it.  It may or may not extrapolate to New Jersey, but any program that aims at improving the lives of hundreds of millions of people is worth exploring.
