Not everyone wants Joe to go

by: Jason Springer

Yes, you read that right.  The County Surrogate, Freeholder and Sheriff say calls for Joe Ferriero to resign are premature.  First Sheriff McGuire:
All three officials pointed to a similar message: that Ferriero has only been charged with a crime, not convicted of one.

"We all have the presumption of innocence and I?m sure that this investigation will take its course and certainly we know that Ferriero is not an elected official," said McGuire.  "It's a little bit different from the Al Steeles, Wayne Bryants, Etc. who were elected by the people. This is a little more of a family matter.

Freeholder Ganz took the opportunity to reprimand the Governor and Congressman Rothman:
"Steve Rothman ought to know better. He's a lawyer, a former surrogate, and he knows the constitutional presumption of innocence. A resignation implies guilt, and to that extent I'm surprised that the Governor and Cryan would say that as well. I don't feel that way," said Ganz.  "The Governor's not a lawyer, but he should know better too. And I have to tell you, I feel very strongly about that."
And Surrogate Dressler was not to be outdone with his rhetoric:
"You get somewhat concerned when people start asking for resignations in a case like this. What makes this system here in the United States different than the British system - we fought a revolution for representative government. There's a difference with our system and the British system - there's a presumption of innocence until the person is proven guilty.  We have a situation here where yes there's been an indictment and the chairman has taken a leave of absence until he has his day in court, and he's entitled to his day in court. Everybody's presumed innocent, including the Bergen County Democratic Chairman," Dressler explained.  "The revolution was fought over this, and for people to start saying this person should resign, that person should resign, there is the presumption of innocence."
Maybe they just really like the annual cruise around the Statue of Liberty.

Oh, good lord (0.00 / 0)
Innocent until proven guilty doesn't mean you are innocent, it means that the government has to prove your guilt in a court of law for the court to enact punishments and restitution.

Jeebus.

Ferriero should resign whether he is found guilty or not.  The chair is a political job, and he is a fricking hot potato.  The chair's job is to create an environment where his party wins elections, and right now he cannot do that.

Ferriero can't do the job, so Ferriero should resign.

Then I want a divorce (0.00 / 0)
If this is a "family matter" and Joe has run up nearly a million in debt do we need a conviction to get a resignation?

He has behaved in so unethical a manner in the bright light of day, just because his latest adventure in enriching himself at public expense has not yet been PROVEN illegal in a court of law, doesn't mean he can't be FIRED from a job he did poorly.

You don't need to do something illegal to be FIRED.  They obviously care MORE about coddling Joe further than they do about electing our next President.  I am just disgusted with their remarks.  Have they even SEEN the amount that the BCDO is in the RED?

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

And another thing (0.00 / 0)
Ganz is just afraid he will get tarred with the same brush, because Joe wasted 1/3 Million bucks on the  freeholder PRIMARY - money the BCDO didn't have.  And he is afraid he will lose his Freeholder seat in November if the public associates him with Joe - which we all do anyway.

Leo is a popular guy, but also deeply associated with Joe in the public mind.

I have just seen Joe do so many things that hurt the Democratic party, regardless of whether they were ILLEGAL or not. The state of the finances alone should be cause to get rid of the guy.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Very dissapointing and ill-timed comments (0.00 / 0)

"stupid is as stupid does" (0.00 / 0)
Ganz being up for re-election is just painting the big bulls-eye on himself.

I have been a recovering fan of "The West Wing" for quite some time (I think it was an opiate for liberals), but one of the lines I really liked was when the GOP committee counsel was offering Leo McGarry a chance to not talk about his addictions if he rolled over on the president.  He said, "He doesn't take a bullet for me.  I take a bullet for him."  So, here is Ferriero having the elected officials take bullets for HIM.  What loyalty to the party!!

Ganz (0.00 / 0)
appears to be hoping against hope that Ferriero gets out of trouble so he can get Ganz re-elected again. He still doesn't get that Joe is all about Joe, and always has been.

Ganz's comment about Joe's innocence is the stupidest thing he's done  - right up there with his representing the folks who brought you the Freedom Tower Silver Dollar, the most shameless exploitation of 9/11 yet:

"Ferriero gets a temporary pass..." (0.00 / 0)
From PolitickerNJ:

Ferriero gets a temporary pass after Bergen Democratic bloodbath

After a raucous meeting that insiders present said seemed more like a family gathering after a tragedy than a typical political meeting, the Bergen County Democratic Organization's Executive Committee agreed not to ask Chairman Joe Ferriero to resign - at least not until after the November election.

Gee, but I'd love to know what kind of deals are being cut behind the scenes this time.
