New Brunswick wards get zoning petition on ballot

The New Brunswick council fought this initiative vehemently, citing an increased tax expense to voters.  However, the EON says its about council members wanting to hang on to their seats and a strong interest in keeping student influence on city matters diminished.

I think we know the real reason (hint, it's the latter).

Currently living in New Brunswick, I do feel that the city does not care about it's college student population.  To the city, which is undertaking massive continued gentrification, us Rutgers students are just an eyesore for the yuppie-lites who want to work in Manhattan but not pay exorbitant rent.

Too bad, because without Rutgers, New Brunswick's vibrancy, diversity, and intellectual prowess would be severely limited.
