No Roll Call Necessary - NJ Delegates Go To Obama By Acclamation

by: Scott Shields

Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 11:11:50 AM EDT

Blue Jersey's inside sources at the convention in Denver are reporting that a motion was just made and unanimously carried by voice vote to pledge New Jersey's delegates to Senator Barack Obama by acclamation, without the need for a roll call vote.  Among those speaking in favor of the motion were Rep. Frank Pallone and labor leader Donald Norcross.

Upon passage, the enthusiastic Jersey crowd gave the motion a standing ovation. The mood of the room was summed up by Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts, who remarked that Garden Staters are going to make it clear that "no matter where we were in the primary, we are coming together for victory."

I think that makes the score Unity - 127, PUMAs - 0.

Updated.  Acclimation / Acclamation... Whatever.  I was in a rush to beat Friedman.  LOL!

Party Unity My Ass - aka, people who can't deal with democracy.

PUMA (0.00 / 0)
stood for "Party Unity My Ass!"  Some  former Clinton backers who threatened to support McCain used this to describe how they felt.  As of yesterday some delegates were still not solidly behind Obama.

After Hillary's great speech last night and her recent support of Obama at events, it is clear that Hillary hit it out of the park in dispelling any doubts among the NJ delegation that the real opponent is John McCain.  "No Way.  No How.  No McCain!"

The PUMA is now an endangered species here in NJ.  Thank God.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

My reports of PUMA extinction (0.00 / 0)
were premature, I'm afraid.  They treated Steven pretty badly.

Yes, this whole convention is all about THEM.  The rest of us wink out of existence when they close their eyes at night.  What did they expect?  Us to outlaw the Y chromosome and lock up all the men?  As a woman I am extremely offended by their awful behavior -  on behalf of a woman candidate.  Somewhere, Elizabeth Cady Stanton is embarrassed - as I am.

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.

Accosted by crazies in Denver (4.00 / 4)
So here in Denver yesterday, I was walking downtown, wearing my credentials around my neck like all the other political nerds and junkies.

Two people stopped me and asked, excuse me, Are you a delegate?  I said yes.  May I ask whom you support for President?  I said, I came here as a Hillary delegate but I'm for Obama now.

These two people, it turned out, are part of PUMA or some other such group.

I kept walking and walking and they followed me for five blocks.  Screamed at me.  Wouldn't stop.  Called me a sellout, a fascist (a word that really hurts), on and on.

I held it together at first, talking as I was walking - saying listen, I'm about as true a believer in Hillary Clinton as you can find.  That yes, I agree with you, there was sexism in this campaign, sexism I detest, but in the end, that's not the only reason Hillary lost.  She ran a disappointing campaign about the past, rather than the future.  That the campaign was hers to lose and she lost it, much to my huge disappointment, and now I'm moving on and getting behind our nominee.

Well, as you can imagine, the two PUMAs didn't stop screaming and one actually stopped me from crossing the street.

Finally we approached the next group of police officers - they're on every block of the downtown core for security and helping purposes - and I said, officers, I'd like to press charges against these people.

Guess what?  The PUMAs STILL didn't stop screaming, even with the police there.

Finally, the officers held them back as I proceeded to the next reception.

I'm amazed they weren't arrested. n/t (0.00 / 0)

If you need a bodyguard (0.00 / 0)
I know how to whup-up on people.

The Clinton's aren't responsible for the PUMAs (or putas, or whatever), but I think Bill could give them a WWF smackdown.

I can only imagine the headline... (4.00 / 1)
NJ Civil Rights Leader Nearly Mauled By Wild Pumas On Denver Street

Maybe it's the lack of oxygen out there...

That is terrible, Steven.  You and Assemblywoman Huttle were wonderful supporters of Hillary.  She was lucky to have such class acts on her side during the Primary.  I am proud that you were sent out to Denver to represent NJ.

Apparently the news reports here about the goings on there paint a much different version of her supporters.

Could you imagine how bad things would be if all us former Edwards delegates and supporters of OTHER candidates behaved the same way?  Jeesh!  It would be total mayhem and madness.

Sad to hear those nutcases are still out there make all Democrats look bad.  Those chicks really need to grow the heck up! Did they say what state they were from?

One Vote.  Yours.  It really does matter.
