Clinton to release delegates?

by: Scott Weingart

Mon Aug 25, 2008 at 02:12:50 AM EDT

Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ-06) has suggested to Blue Jersey that Hillary Clinton may release her delegates after placing her name in nomination at the Democratic National Convention. The congressman's understanding is that at the start of the roll call, Clinton will tell her delegates to vote for Obama.

Pallone says he still supports Clinton, but would vote for Obama if Senator Clinton asks her delegates to do so.

Here's What Pallone/Clinton Should Be Saying... (4.00 / 1)
Thanks for all your support in the primary; but that's over.   Barack Obama won and I lost.

The stakes are too high for our party to become divided over what might have been.  Please, let's all support Barack Obama without pause or reservation; I'm honored that my name is in nomination but I urge all my supporters to vote for Barack Obama, the next President of the United States.

She could actually go alot further that that; but that's the bare minimum of what's needed.

This is an opportunity for both Bill and Hillary to demonstrate some deep class and to put love of country ahead of petty personal games.......I pray they can dig deep into their consciences and do the right thing.

That has been the plan all along. (0.00 / 0)
The whole point of Clinton "taking it to the convention" is so that her supporters felt that they have been heard and even though they loss; their votes have counted for something. If Obama gives the appearance that he was bullying Clinton in anyway the resentment and anger towards him would disenfranchise her supporters. If Clinton can go out gracefully by giving a speech and releasing her delegates herself it will provide closure and give greater ease to them supporting Obama.

He still does not have 30% of her supporters backing him and hopefully this creates some unity after her speech and then Obama welcoming them in his.

like Ted Kennedy provided closure in 1980?  A great speech but one that hardly rallied Dems to Jimmy Carter's side.

I hope she shows half the class that Bill Bradley did.

Well, (0.00 / 0)
if you really wanted to bring the party together then you would act like it instead of constantly wanting "credit" for the meager steps you take while insisting on being "respected."

Nevertheless, I am very pleased that she is releasing the delegates before the roll call starts.

Kudos To Senator Clinton For This... (0.00 / 0)
...from the NY delegate breakfast this am...

I think that she really needs to make it clear that we know that the Republican/Rovians are doing their worst to drive wedges and to salt wounds.

She should also point out that 99% of the bitter angry "women" that one may find on the web anonymously claiming to be Clinton supporters who feel dissed and will now vote for McCain are likely Republican trolls...and mostly male freepers to boot.

Clinton is too smart to allow her followers to get sucked in by the McCain/Bush/Rove gamers.

Heaven forbid Barack lose by a "small margin" and there was the perception that she held back her support.   Shge would be as dead (in terms of running for president) as John Kerry.

It's to Hillary's (and all of our) advantage to go all out 100% full steam ahead!!!
