Track National Ads Running In New Jersey

by: huntsu

Daily Kos has a few really good ads from Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee (you can watch them below the fold) that will be running on national cable in the coming weeks.  These are the kind of ads that I love to see, hard-hitting but totally truthful.  The DNC ad is mostly John McCain with his own words -- which you know means there will be cries that this is unfair from the right wingers!

New Jersey is pretty much in the Blue column for November, so we're not going to see a ton of advertising from either campaign except the national stuff.  There will be some Philly stuff down south, but it will be targeted to Pennsylvania and not to us.

So I was wondering what we are going to get to see, and whether any of you are seeing these ads.  Do Blue Jersey a favor and treat this as an open thread on how the national campaign ad strategy helps or hurts us here in NJ, and whether you've seen any ads in the upcoming week.

It could be the McCain ads already running in the Olympics, the upcoming Obama ads slated for both local cable and the Olympics, or something some third-party group put together.

Please put the campaign or sponsor (if third party), the time, the channel and -- if you can figure it out -- whether the ad was a local, regional or national buy.

This is the Obama ad:

This is the DNC ad:

And as a bonus, the Ohio Dems put this together (you'll not see this one on local TV here in Jersey!):

I saw Obama's "Hands" ads a few times (4.00 / 2)
On NBC Saturday and Sunday night:

I also saw McCain ads (0.00 / 0)
The celebrity ad that ends with saying Obama will raise taxes and destroy jobs.

These were all national Olympics buys, I'm pretty sure.

ads (4.00 / 1)
Those of us in the Philly regional market were so inundated with ads during the April Pa primary, that it is somewhat hard to differentiate the timeline. Obama had on at least twice as many ads then, though.

Over a month ago, I saw a McCain ad on Fox-7 Philadelphia during the 7:00-7:30 timeline. The ad had him talking to workers, and it featured an alternative energy (this was before "drill, drill, drill"). It was locally targeted to Philadelphia and its suburbs, bought by the McSame campaign.

okay, I saw that Obama ad (0.00 / 0)
(the one at the top hitting McCain on oil) twice on ABC local news in Philly today -- just before 5:30 and before 6:00.

I did see a McCain attack ad (the same one on the Olympics) on local NBC news Philly sometime in between. This wouldn't be complete, since I flip around.

two more commercials (0.00 / 0)
One was from Obama, the other, McSame.

While at a brewpub on Sat., I noted a well-placed Obama commercial on Fox 7 -- during the Phillies game on Saturday afternoon (5:00 ish?). It was a positive Obama commercial and one I hadn't seen before.

The other was a McCain ad that I saw yesterday at about 7:15 p.m. on CBS-3 out of Philly. It's a negative, anti-Obama ad that features pictures of Schumer, Reid, and the Democratic congress; then it says something like "They came to Washington to tax us," then cuts to a picture of Obama.

Obama's Massive Philly Ad Buy (0.00 / 0)
In the past few weeks, Obama ads have been everywhere in the Philadelphia market, which means that voters in swing areas like Chester County and Bucks County are getting his message on cable channels; because we're in local Camden County, we also get these ads on our cable system.

To name a few: Obama buys a long ad, the one where he speaks directly to the camera, for the Eagles Monday night game a few weeks ago; he has more than one ad buy during the Phillies games, as they batled for the playoffs; he had another one tonight on Faux News where a woman with a Southern accent says McCain is wrong on the economy; he's had at least two ad buys on HGTV (national, perhaps?) during the 7:30 slot, perhaps these were his "Change" ads; and he's even had a radio ad on the top classic rock channel in Philly, 102.9.

By contrast, I've only seen one McCain ad in the past few weeks, some ad where he says he'll bring real reform to Washington (yeah, right).

Obama is buying heavily in Philly and this is being broadcast also here in South Jersey, a peripheral positive effect.
