Wyka on Healthcare

It could happen to you, even if you have health insurance. Illness and medical bills are the major cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. Although we have 47 million uninsured people, most of the 2 million people per year affected by medical bankruptcy had health insurance when they first got sick. But they weren't really protected, because of exclusions, high deductibles, and copays. Or they lost their insurance when they could no longer work. At the same time, businesses and local governments are struggling to pay the high premiums for their employees' benefits.

When you buy private insurance, about 30% of your premium goes to overhead: dividends for the investors, the high salaries of their officers, and a bureaucracy that picks your doctor for you and tries to find ways to avoid paying for your care. In contrast, Medicare's overhead is only 3%. How could a government program be so efficient? Well, Social Security's overhead is only 1%. No private pension plan can compare to that!

In this video, Tom emphasizes the plight of so many Americans, many of them close friends and aquiantances, who struggle with the high cost of healthcare in our country. These are real people. They could be your friends, relatives, neighbors or their children. Many of us could be one severe illness away from the same situation.

It doesn't have to be this way. No one in any other industrialized country has this problem. What you have to do is elect people to House of Representatives and the Senate and the White House who will solve this problem. It comes down to you. Please go to www.tomwyka.com to see how you can help.

you're not kidding! (4.00 / 3)
I live in Morris County and it seems like every other day the Daily Record has a story about a fundraiser that is being held for someone who is struggling with medical costs.

From having to leave our infants too early to go back to work, to folks with "insurance" who are unable to meet their "share" when serious illness strikes, to the absolutely uninsured who are forcing our hospitals into bankruptcy, SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE!

There is nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed with what's right with America.  -W. J. Clinton

Is this the best we have to offer? (4.00 / 2)
Is this as good as it gets?  A health care system that puts dollars ahead of lives?  A campaign finance system that allows only the richest of the rich to successfully run and creates politicians that are beholden to the deepest pockets instead of the people they are, at least in theory, representing?  An endless war where fear overrides facts?  An environmental policy that seems to avoid science like the plague?  A Congressman that claims to be a moderate nice guy who is always there for veterans, yet goes into the Capitol and votes against anything that may benefit society, blindly follows what the far right says, and votes against his alleged principals when it comes to things like the GI Bill?

No.  We can do better, and we deserve better.  Tom Wyka is the candidate that we need to create the system that we need, a system that serves the people, rather than the elite of the elite and the rich of the rich.  The right is wrong, and it is time that we all showed the world that we know that, and we won't stand for it anymore.

Tom is right, we are all in this together, and we need to all work for this together if we are ever to make anything of it.

Have no fear if you were feeling pessimistic, because this is not as good as it gets, and Rodney Frelinghuysen is not the best we have to offer.

Tom Wyka is.

It is time we put Tom in Congress to do the job that needs to be done, a job that the current office holder is incapable of doing.

Great Video!!! Go Tom!!! (4.00 / 1)
We need to get out from under the thumb of the insurance industry asap.

Tom, you are right: "It doesn't have to be this way." (4.00 / 1)
A lot more is know about the economics of health care now than when Bill Clinton tried to remake the US health care system. And there's overwhelming evidence that the United States could get better health care at lower cost if we were willing to put that knowledge into practice. A shift of power from Republicans to Democrats is the only way we will get sensible health care reform. Eventually the U.S. will end up with national health insurance, and perhaps with a lot of direct government provision of health care, simply because nothing else works.

It could happen to me..... (0.00 / 0)
Rodney is excellent at playing the moderate republican who is really voting to enable the Bush Administration.

As if you hadn't noticed, there is a fresh blowing across this country, and it's people powered.

Obama and Wyka, perfect together. :-).
