We need more campaigns reaching out to engage the netroots.  Using homegrown talent saved this campaign several thousand dollars and helps a young blogger get some cred. - promoted by Thurman Hart

Thank you to the numerous people who took the time to participate in a different kind of way in our campaign. Due to the incredible interest in the contest we continued to accept submissions through this week.  

We asked you to create a BlogAd that would represent our campaign across the netroots spectrum, and that's exactly what you did. We're happy to announce that the winner of the contest is Kevin Bondelli from kevinbondelli.com, which is one of the best Youth Vote Blog's on the internet. Kevin has been actively watching the NJ-3 race for some time now, and is happy to finally be involved! Congrats Kevin!

I can no longer count, nor do I care to, how many times I have offered my web services free to various political entities. Even with my documented experience with campaigns and political sites, as well as other sites. No takers.

I have really come to feel that campaigns at any level are far more comfortable shelling out the long green to consultants for their websites. Perhaps there are rare examples where that is not true, but...

Part of it is that Campaign Managers make a taste on the backhand side, I am sure.

Not bitter. Not angry. Just speaking from experience.

To the Adler Campaign: Great move. There is a lot of talent out there who believe in change and The Dems. Tap it every time you can. You do have to reach out for it. But, congratulations on your prescient move.

and the crap peddled by some so-called "professionals" is painful to see.  A big part of being web-savvy is knowing when and how to let go.  This is a step in the right direction.

In 2003, I started blogging the race for the Democratic nomination. In early 2005, I designed a blog ad for Simon Rosenberg's run for DNC chair and sent it along to them, free of charge. Later that year, I joined Chris and Jerome at MyDD. By 2006, I'd found my way into establishment politics on the Menendez race.

Point being, there are ways in, even if it's not as easy as starting from the inside and moving up. It's definitely cool that the Adler campaign gave their supporters an outlet like this to show off their talents.

You know I'm a fan of your work, but some of us want to help the guys at the bottom.  Sometimes it just seems that they don't even know how much help they need.

The other thing is that down at the bottom of the political food chain, where there is a paucity of funds, and a need for help, there seems to be a lot of people who know little about websites, especially in this modern era, but still deliver a lot of loud opinions, incessantly.

They can and will run you right off. Officially. And love every minute of it.

I have a friend who once told me I was insane to be involved in local politics. I scoffed. Then.

And don't get me started about my experience with a website and an inside-the-beltway voting integrity initiative. It was like pitbulls fighting over who gets to tinkle on the tree.

Scott, you have done well and deserve every accolade you receive. Sadly, my experience has been diametrically opposed to yours, to the extent I no longer offer. Getting rejected on paying work is something one can absorb. But getting it in the shortribs on volunteer work? Nah. Life is cruel enough without that.

Trust me, Jaybro, at 55, you just ain't particularly avant garde. ;-)

No. It's more like "I can do better with frontpage or my kid/cousin/brother/sister can" or "I have this guy who does my website and he only costs..." or "We need to go with PROFESSIONALS!". Cue the back-hand side.

Believe me, I know some of the amounts that have been shelled out by cash-strapped campaigns, for pedestrian sites. You might choke at the amounts.

The beltway job was particularly interesting: they ultimately spent a bundle on it with the a consultancy who was friends with the treasurer. They got dog vomit. Straight out of the box, bog-standard, stock, very-little-changes...crap.

My encominiums regarding things like integral mailing list signups and social networking features fell upon deaf ears. There was money to reroute.

Ahh, but there was one campaign that was a pure joy...Finest people I know.

Website volunteer needed! (0.00 / 0)
We lost our volunteer webmaster some time ago to graduate school plus a job w travel. We're queer, we're Democrats and some of our members are up and coming officeholders.

And we have an attitude ....

We have a message, but we have a problem getting it out and being interactive. Shall we talk?
