If you participated in the meeting of the Progressive Caucus of the New Jersey Democratic State Commitee that we held in Piscataway on Saturday, January 28, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you were unable to attend, consider this to be a second chance at participating in the Progressive Caucus. One of the many exciting accomplishments of this meeting was the first steps that we took in the development of an issues platform for the caucus.
bertinlefkovic :: The Progressive Caucus Needs You
Following are the list of issues on which we decided to take positions.  The first group are issues that the caucus referred to our language group because little, if any, discussion was required.  The second group are issues that the caucus rereferred to working groups because some further discussion was required.

Issues Referred to Language Group

  • Marriage Equality (let us know if you think that this should be incorporated in the LGBTI Rights working group)
  • The War in Iraq
  • The Future of the Death Penalty in New Jersey
  • Stem Cell Research
  • Reproductive Rights (let us know if you think that this should be incorporated in the Women's Rights working group)
  • Universal Health Care
  • Social Security
  • Medicare
  • Eminent Domain
  • Human/Civil Rights

Issues Referred to Working Groups

  • Property Tax Reform
  • Department of Peace
  • Foreign Policy
  • Pension Reform
  • Ethics Reform
  • Energy
  • Environment
  • Homeland Security
  • Crime
  • Poverty
  • Education
  • Labor
  • Jobs
  • Trade
  • Women's Rights
  • Election Reform
  • Budget/Deficit Reduction (Federal/State/County/Municipal)
  • Campaign Finance Reform
  • Pay-to-Play
  • LGBTI Rights
  • Animal Protection
  • Immigration

Other issues can be added to these lists at a future date to be determined by the members of the caucus.  I have created a general Yahoo! Group for the caucus.  Please go to the Progressive Caucus Yahoo! Group to join.

Also, please e-mail bertinlefkovic@njfordemocracy.org ASAP with the following information:

  1. Identify 3-5 issues that you believe should be the top priorities of the Progressive Caucus in 2006.
  2. List the working groups that you would like to join (feel free to join as few or as many as you want).
  3. Let us know if you would like to work on the language group (number of people to be limited by the number of issues).
