by: Scott Weingart

So far, at least nine papers have published endorsements in the Democratic US Senate primary, and at least seven have endorsed in the Republican primary.

Media Consolidation (4.00 / 1)
Gannett owns the Courier Post and Daily Record, which endorsed Andrews, but also the Asbury Park Press, the Courier News, the Home News Tribune, and the Daily Journal, which apparently havent endorsed.

Advance Publications (the successor to Newhouse) owns the Star Ledger, the Jersey Journal, and The Gloucester County Times, all of which endorsed Andrews, and the Today's Sunbeam (Salem) and the Bridgeton News, which I guess haven't endorsed.

Lautenberg's 2 are 1, too (3.00 / 1)
The Record and the Herald News are different editions of the same paper.

Separate Editorial Boards (4.00 / 1)
The Record and the Herald News are owned by the same parent, and one day soon may be different editions of the same paper (or literally the same paper).

But, for now, they do maintain separate editorial boards, and have on occasion made divergent endorsements.

Thanks. (4.00 / 1)
As noted, below, I trust you folks more than I trust Wikipedia. Thank you.

think that's it (0.00 / 0)
Thanks for compiling this; I think that is the correct listing of endorsements. I've been checking The Press of Atlantic City, Asbury Park Press, The Burlington County Times, and these papers haven't endorsed.

So by publihsers, it's 3 to 2 (0.00 / 0)
Gannett, Advnace, and the local Philly group that owns the Inquirer are in Andrews' camp.

The Record and the Times are in Lautenberg's.

Andrews' backers aren't insisiting all their local outlest take a position, but none will take positions contrary to what their sister papers (and presumably their home offices) have done.

I wouldn't make that assumption (4.00 / 1)
Each of those papers has its own editorial staff, and while I'm sure its true that the management tends to hire people that reflect their own prejudices and so there may seem to be a monobloc of opinions coming from each 'family' of papers, in my experience (not totally insignificant-I've won NJPA awards and I have sat on editorial endorsement panels) these decisions are made by the local staffs and are not dictated from above. That some papers chose not to endorse means just that - they chose not to endorse. You don't know why. By-the-bye, while the Record does own the Herald it is not just an edition of the Record - it has its own editorial staff.

OK, I'll trust you over Wikipedia, which called it a Passaic County edition.
