"We'll add Junior's call to the list"

by: Juan Melli

Thu Jan 26, 2006 at 12:42:51 PM EST

Menendez' Senate challenger Tom Kean Jr yesterday said that "if we can't count on our two senators to fight for New Jersey and a highly qualified judicial appointment, who can we count on to fight for us?"

Menendez spokesperson Matthew Miller said the office has received 918 calls against confirming Alito and 190 in favor. Miller: "We take the opinions of all of our constituents very seriously. ... We'll add Junior's call to the list, and that will make it 191."

Update: Senator Kerry is supporting a filibuster of Alito. Call Menendez and Lautenberg and urge them to join the filibuster.
Sen. Bob Menendez: (202) 224-4744
Sen. Frank Lautenberg: (202) 224-3224

Judge Alito (0.00 / 0)
I just called Sen. Menendez' office.  It's 919 against Alito.

Filibuster (0.00 / 0)
I contacted both multiple times.  I urged a filibuster.

If this was Corzine, we would have a definite NO, a speech against Alito and a supporter of the filibuster.  Menendez ... ughhh.  I warned him that he better get with it or he will have no one campaigning for him.  We'll find someone to run against him in the primary.

What's with Lautenberg?  This should be an easy NO for him.

Alito is unacceptable.

Lautenberg & Menendez' offices still saying "undecided" (0.00 / 0)
Keep calling!

To insanity... and beyond! (Apologies to Buzz Lightyear.)

Hillary is for the filibuster (0.00 / 0)
Just read this in kos:

Raw Story is reporting that Hilary will support the filibuster.

http://rawstory.com/...

"Philippe Reines, press secretary to Sen. Clinton, confirmed the senator's position in an email message Friday.

"Senator Clinton will vote against cloture, thereby supporting the filibuster of Judge Alito's nomination," Reines said."

Not sure what this will mean to the success of the filibuster, but it is interesting in its possible political meaning/repercussions.

I called Menendez again.  He is still not decided.  The phone counts are still far more calls against Alito than for Alito.  But keep in mind, we want a filibuster!

I called Lautenberg as well.  All I could get is that the Senator has not made up his mind and will have a speech on Monday / Tuesday (sounds almost too late).

Undecided? (0.00 / 0)
I called Menendez's office and he's still undecided?  I thought I had more pull than that.

If Menendez doesn't support the filibuster he can retire shortly because he won't win next fall.

Home state courtesy? (0.00 / 0)
Honestly, I'd rather put Tony Soprano (well James gandolfini) on the court than Alito!  What do these guys have to lose?  No wonder Lautenberg scores so low in that Survey USA poll.  Gotta show some spine, Frank!

Circuits were busy (0.00 / 0)
But I got through to Menendez's office.  They were polite.  Took down my name and address and sid they'd pass along my message.  Maybe?
